This is like the 3rd post I’ve made since this games release. Massive gold sellers are spamming through chat channel invites. This is not a vanilla feature and I don’t understand why blizzard hasn’t removed this yet. Yes I’m aware you can disable invites; despite the fact that it still spams you in a chat channel saying you’ve blocked their invite.
I don’t see why the classic team is so slow to react to these issues. This issue is easily fixed and 99% of the community wouldn’t mind if chat channel invites were removed. You’re only letting the gold seller problem get out of hand so that you can introduce your own WoW tokens to fix the ‘problem’.
Because this issue is at the very bottom of the list of important things that need to be fixed. Seriously it happens maybe twice a day and if you have the feature disabled, you don’t even have to click anything.
What’s your suggested fix for this? Disable the custom chatroom feature?
they cant completely stop gold sellers, its part of the mmo genre, just a reality. removing a feature regular players might use, inviting to a channel, would not stop gold sellers AT ALL and potentially disturb normal players and waste developer time for nothing. gold sellers and their spam were part of wow classic, part of wow retail, and part of mmos before wow even existed. just ignore them/play the game.
Blizzard did actually do something about this, you just didn’t know about it (otherwise you wouldn’t have made this post).
I want to say in the first month of classic, when someone invited you to a chat channel their names were non-interactive, so you couldn’t right-click report the player, you had to actually open a ticket.
Well, I opened two tickets and suggested that they make player names interactive when they invite other players to chat channels, that way it’s easier to report gold sellers.
What do you know? Blizzard actually implemented my suggestion and I didn’t have an advertisement again until maybe this past week, and you can just right-click report the player for advertising gold selling websites.
Unless you want Blizzard to remove custom chat channels from the game altogether, there’s not much they can do about the method that gold sellers are using for advertisement. And if players don’t report gold sellers for advertising their websites, Blizzard can’t ban the accounts doing the advertising.
Fool proof option. Accept their invite and go into options and disable that channel. Boom. No gold seller chat spam and you can’t be invited to a channel you’re already apart of. Carry on as normal.
disable the invite feature. You don’t need a person to send you an invite to a channel to know how to join it. Back in the day your raid leader or guild leader would say “okay all healers join ‘death and taxes healers’. Or all mages join the guild mage channel”. Its a simple fix. It was not in vanilla.
No all you have to do is msg them and then right click report them. I don’t see why the community is so slow to do this either. I’ll get a msg from a guy and report him… 3 hours later I’ll get the same msg from that same gold spammer and hes still spamming away. If more people would just RCR they would die faster.
Because it’s a non-issue once you’ve disabled the anonying pop-up dialog … if one line lol"spammed" in your chat log concerns you that much then maybe it would be helpful to seek some professional help with your anxiety issues?
Oh, and yes, if it weren’t for that lolspam in the chat log you couldn’t RCR it, could you?
right click name- report for cheating… type selling gold in the box that pops up…
the more people to do this, the faster the gold sellers get banned and have to start over. eventually when they cant make enough money, they will move on to another game
This is such an easy fix. #no changes. This feature should not even be in classic WoW. If you want to make your own chat channel, simply tell your friends to join it. You don’t need the ability to spam an invite. Its one more difficulty the gold spammers have.
I agree with you, but I’m not at Blizzard. I never even knew about this feature until the gold pop ups started. I doubt I’ll EVER see anyone that is not a gold spammer actually use it. So they have a mechanic here that literally ONLY gold spammers use. I don’t know what purpose that was supposed to serve.
