Still deciding on playing DH

Just throwing this out there to the nether in hopes of some input on the class.

For some context, I have many classes at 70, and 4 80s (Lock, Mage, Priest and Evoker.) I’ve settled on my demo lock because, well demons. However, remembering what really kept me hooked back in tbc was the demon theme and the twisting nether. I feel like DH just fits me as well as my demo lock.

What is bothering me, before devoting more time to DH, is that I feel as though that DH is missing something. It feels like a spec more so than a class, like something combat rogues would diverge into or were going to be. No offense, this is why I am here to get input.

Note as I have just returned to WoW after leaving after Legion. I played a ton of DH then and I want to feel good about playing it now. I am actually excited to start tanking as a DH, something rogues wish they could do, ha!

So how do you all feel about maining a DH instead of another class? Is it fulfilling? Lacking something? Perfect as is?

Just take a look through the forums to get the community feedback. DH doesn’t feel good. Momentum is still the best build, and the community is very split about it. Some like it, but most I’d argue hate it. On top of Aldrachi Reaver feeling awful (Throw Glaive just isn’t a fun ability to press) and the lack of new animations for skills with Hero Talents, DH isn’t in a great spot in the community’s eyes. Do we do pretty good damage? Yeah, for sure. Is Vengeance in a good spot compared to other tanks? Absolutely. But the class is missing something… well… a lot of something.

i wouldnt touch DH if i were you. we’ve recieved by far the least amount of attention this expansion (including alpha/beta/hero talents, and now 11.0.5). The developers refuse to communicate regarding this class, have openly ignored our feedback, and seem content on leaving the class in a disaster state.

Both of our hero talents are very underwhelming. One of them actively makes the gameplay worse, and the other is flavorless and boring, and creates a lame damage profile. There are still talents that literally don’t function whatsoever, that have been reported since dragonflight beta.

Thank you both for the info. I have to agree with these points, and will most likely check in later when DH is in a better place and receives some attention. DH will always have a special place for me, I will never forget how special legion and TBC was. Maybe i’ll level one to 80 and park it for later.

Drauh-pagle hit the nail on the head. I fit into the ‘hates momentum’ category - always have. DH is just about as bad as it has ever been.

The only thing I would add to this… It’s still my preferred class. I still enjoy playing DH more than I do the other alts I have leveled so far this expansion. That would include hunter, mage and a little bit of warrior and druid. My second favorite class in DF was Ret pally which I haven’t tried yet this expac, but have heard they made that less fun as well.

The one upside/silver lining you have to DH to consider is although the community is rightfully upset and feeling neglected - It should eventually result in some sort of changes. Due to the current state of things one would expect them to make it a top priority of addressing compared with almost any other class as far as I am aware. It wouldn’t take a major update to address either, it could be patched in at any time.

I have a different perspective coming off 15 years as a Warlock main and a couple as a MM hunter.

I’ve never mained DH prior to WWithin so I’ve not experienced the better days mentioned in this thread. I just got so worn out on the slow moving turret playstyle. It’s nice being able to make a sandwich while Chaosbolt is being cast, but zipping around with multiple instant interrupts and self-sustain feels so fresh.

Granted it’s new toy syndrome, but it’s keeping me interested, and that’s good enough for now.

in pvp if you start a fight without fury you’re gonna get dumpstered. if you get focused, you’re gonna get dumpstered. if people ignore you? its the most fun I ever had in a class. 50% of your gameplay is a** and 50% you feel like a pro gamer. Idk man its tough out there for dh. In pve I think its pretty balanced and the mobility can really make up for mispositioning.

Can occasionally feel overwhelming if you get “too many” procs. Knowing what abilities have priority over others is a constant chore to remember, due to the sheer amount of options to choose from. I play aldrachi though, which I hear is the harder spec.

Which talents are these?
