Stepping Into 4K Gaming. Got the Rig, Need the Monitor

Been an ASUS user forever but I would like opinions on other monitors that are 4K, 144/165mhz (higher works too) in the 27-30" range. Price is not a deciding factor.

Newegg and/or Amazon. Local selection is limited to Best Buy and…no. Just no.

It’s outside of your requested size range, But If you want the best of the best, A 4K 120hz panel that obliterates anything and everything? Give the LG C1 48 or LG C2 42 a go.

These are OLED panels and they are 48 and 42 inches in size, So a bit bigger than what you’ve asked for and if we are talking in Australian dollars they are pricey (But you are an american)

But let me tell you why this is worth it.

Oled panels have the single fastest refresh per pixel in pixel response time than any other panel technology, They also have infinite contrast, And the widest color range viewable, As-well as unbeatable HDR capacity.

These panels specifically are the following and really it’s hard to beat them.

Immaculate in color representation (Oled)
HDR native support in a way that will blind you if you get flash banged
Individually lit pixels makes an infinite contrast so they are just as good for bright and colorful games as they are going to be for horror games
Near instantanous pixel response time means no motion blur, I put my C1 against a 240hz panel side by side and the C1 looked and had less ghosting than a 240hz TN panel.
These are 10 bit panels wich means more colors

And last but not least all of them support Variable refresh rate.

Yes they can be scary but in games like WoW just set your UI to auto fade after combat and you’ll be fine, I’ve run my C1 for over a year and still do not have any image retention and I sink probably 40-50 hours a week on it.

As someone with a 20 year background in PC gaming, I’ve witnessed everything from the old CRT’s to the rise of the TN and then IPS panel, The birth of the solid state drive, Multi GPU configs to monolothic, From single core to 16 cores in a consumer environment.

I’d say the OLED panel is bigger than anything else from an experience point.

Yea I would get a 42" C1 or C2 if I had the room, I used to have 55" lcd but found it to big, not to mention the heat it put out.

This is going on my desk so that is a bit to large. Can’t hang it on the wall either as I have a sit/stand desk setup.

I sit Infront of mine with zero issues it’s on the desk

Will confirm this is great! Have one and I LOVE IT!

OLED is the future of gaming imo. I can never go back to IPS. Also at only $899 for a 42" OLED thats Gsync compatible no one else has anything comparable. Closest thing is by Asus ROG and its $900 more!

I have the 42" LG C2 on my desk. Its not too large at all. I would call it immersive. Id pick one of from Bestbuy give it a try. If you dont like it return it. If you keep it get the BB warranty it covers burn in which is a must have on OLED

Like I said no one else makes anything else that compares at the price. :warning: Warning OLED will break you though. Every other screen I see pales in comparison

6 months later…

Going to do it. Waiting for Prime Day to see if the monitor/TV goes on sale.

Did you wind up getting anything?

I’d highly recommend going OLED if you’re going 4K and the 42" LG C2 is a beautiful OLED screen it’s normally at a pretty decent price. The best part is it has two firmwares on it one for you to use it as a TV and another firmware which is the LG Ultra gear firmware to use it as a computer monitor

If you don’t want to spend the money to go OLED Nano IPS is an amazing picture quality also for 4K and a lot cheaper
