Steel Series MMO Mouse

Every patch or so it stops working without the use of an addon like advancedinterfaceoptions. It’s a literal WoW mouse, and it stops working. I’ve done the console commands to enable, it only works if I have that addon. Can you just add back the box to check where it says “detect world of warcraft gaming mouse?” It was an option a few xpacs back. This is an ongoing thing every xpac, and I don’t want to necro old threads.

Just to clarify, are you talking about the SteelSeries World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse that launched in December 2010? Hardware from almost 14 years ago is likely to incur some blips when it comes to drivers for it interacting with the game. The game itself updated across several expansions since the mouse launched.

Yup that’s the one. Can’t play the beta until I can use advancedinterfaceoptions addon. They removed the box to check in default options that enables it.

I’m in the same boat as you. I reported as an issue in the beta as well. It’s obviously very early in the beta. Not sure if this happened in Dragonflight beta, but hopefully it’s fixed soon. I can’t play without the mouse functionality.

Have the same issue. 14 years ago and the mouse is still working.

Can anyone with a mouse that has extra buttons confirm that functionality for those buttons works in beta?

Doing some research, it’s true that advancedinterfaceoptions was the key to getting this to work in the past. I’ve posted to the addon author’s github page. To be fair, is VERY early in the beta, and it would be unfair to complain at this point. I’m not doing that. I simply put a polite note to put it on the radar that there are those of us who value his addon and would very much like to see it working in the beta.

Yes, they are working for my SteelSeries mouse, but my model launched 4 years ago.

Advanced Interface Options author Stanzilla replied to my ticket. He says it should work with the new addon alpha here:

I’m at the office all day, so I can’t test it until this evening.

If someone wants to test it and see if it resolves our WoW Mouse issued, I’d greatly appreciate an update.

I was able to get the AdvancedInterfaceOptions addon installed, and it does show the option to “Detect World of Warcraft Gaming Mouse”. I also ran the script:

/console enableWowMouse 1 (Enables)

But still no functionality for the mouse buttons that currently work on live.

I sent another ticket to Stanzilla, but obviously this is not his responsibility. Not sure where it goes next. I don’t see the point in intentionally disabling this mouse though.

I hope someone has some insight on what to do.

Any Update? i have same issue as well

I reported it as an issue within beta. I recommend others reporting it as well.

I did a character copy and copied my keybindings over and they show up as correct “Mouse Button 12” but they just don’t work. Hopefully enough people report it so they take notice.

On a side note, I’ve been researching mouse options and there’s literally nothing out there like the Steelseries WoW Mouse. I’ve found no options that have buttons around the middle scroll wheel. I’m getting nervous because if they don’t fix it, this might be the end for me and WoW – and it’s been a long run. Not ready to give it up yet, but I may not have a choice.

Went through the task of finding a 12-button mouse for someone in real life. Most mice moved those buttons to the fingertip area on the outer edges of button 1 & 2. We found a few cheap options—most of which aren’t available anymore—but the ASUS ROG Spatha X and the Logitech G502 HERO seem like the closest alternatives if you want buttons near that area.

My Naga works just fine. The problem with those MMO mice is that steelseries stop supporting them over 10 years ago.

My Naga has nine buttons around the scroll wheel plus a tenth on the top.

I’m open to trying a new mouse (begrudingly) but the ones I’ve looked at don’t have buttons around the scroll wheel. Maybe I missed one? Which Naga do you have? And do they all work in Beta? Thanks for your reply.

Did you see my reply 2 posts up? Like I said, that style of putting buttons there is largely retired, so it’s unlikely you’ll find the same layout. The two I mentioned were the closest I found with 12 buttons.

This is the mouse I have and yes the buttons all work in beta.
