If anyone is wondering, forever works really well on steam deck. Typing is a bit of a challenge. I decided to get a small Bluetooth keyboard to type. It works much better than my Mac Mini M1. Playing with a controller feels better than I thought it would. Installing it on the steam deck took a few extra steps. It does take some getting used to, but the gamepad ui addition works brilliantly. Took me some trial and error to figure out how to bind, unbind, and move key binds. There have been some issues where I have trouble trying to complete a quest, but I have always been able to do it.
100% can agree. I ended up setting it up after caving to buy the beta. I hadn’t played WoW in a fair few years now after major burn out, and ngl, this has been fantastic on steamdeck. I am 110% gonna level fishing while working lol.
I made a mage for my Lenovo Legion Go.
It’s been surprisingly fun. Not as good as mouse and keyboard, but the controller UI works pretty well once you get used to it.
i was impressed with the native ability to play on the steam deck. Will likely play many hours on it in the future. never done anything but M&K before. excited to see how the live game plays with any potential updates from what was learned at the beta
there’s a decky addon for speech to type and it works pretty good
its called Decktation
I don’t think it’s going to work well. It barely worked in nax during the last wotlk.
I can’t get the keyboard to show up when trying to type in chat. Steam + X shortcut will not work. Anyone else having this issue?
I get that about half the time. It would be nice if you clicked on chat and the keyboard pops up. Also controller forever has an emote simple reactions wheel.
Avid Steamdeck WoW classic player here. I’ve enjoyed playing classic on steamdeck for quite some time. I’ve done raids, but primarily just enjoy leveling and dungeons.
Forever thoughts:
Graphics - A+
The higher graphical standards of Forever do take a toll on the steamdeck. I’m totaly fine with this. I have been playing at graphics level 3-4, increasing view distance. Game plays smoothly and graphics are improved from classic. As handhelds get more powerful, we’ll get to use higher graphics settings. This game is going to be around for a while, good to have room to grow from a hardware perspective.
Gameplay - B+
We’re still in Alpha and nearly all the combat gameplay needs are being met well. Navigating between party members as a healer seems to need some improvement. I haven’t spent too much time on it, so there may be an option I’m missing, but for now I would say it’s acceptable for dungeons but not raids. My big mark down is on running backwards. I need to be able to run backwards as well as walk backwards. This works fine out of combat but in combat they turn off running backwards and you can only walk. This needs to get changed or made into an option.
UI - D+
I hate to say it but it’s not in a good shape right now. The edit mode is strait up broken. Saving changes doesn’t work properly, bars are dissapearing, party frames are forced to be raid frames, and there is no option for typing using a gamepad. We need to be able to create custom ring menus like the start menu, pet menu, etc but accessable from a button. We need an on screen keyboard of some type. I HIGHLY recommend the concept the Console Port addon has with the ring-menu style onscreen keyboard. This works FANTASTICALLY WELL. It’s got a small learning curve that returns shocking level of typing speed over navigating an on screen QWERTY.
Install/Launching Game - F
All support for installing and launching WoW on a steamdeck comes from third parties. No native support for steam deck earns an F/did not complete assignment.
