Steam deck questions

I have nerve damage in my right shoulder that is triggered by pc gaming for some reason but I can game on my switch so bought a steam deck for wow its currently not here yet but i’m thinking its got some obvious … complications… like ground aoe targetting such as DH demon form jump and warrior heroic leap and such are probably difficult. I’m going melee I always have always will, Does anyone here have enough experience playing wow on the deck to be able to give a melee tier list on easiest to play on deck?

I have no experience, but I feel like you might be better off asking this question maybe on Reddit or the WOW reddit forums. A lot of people on here either have no idea what a steam deck is or heard of it. You could also look on youtube too.

So I play WOW with a controller and a steam deck and do all end game content with it.

For ground targeted aoe, I basically use a mouse over macro with my cursor in the center of my screen like an FPS. I use console port addon and a weak aura to basically have a cursor ‘target’ symbol in the center of my screen so its easier to see. Console port locks the cursor in the center so its always going to be aiming there. Works well for Shadow Crash and other ground targetted aoes, little clunky but probably your best option.

I’ve done Shadow Priest, Monk and Rogue. Demon Hunter might be an issue with Fel Rush since you’ll effectively have to keyboard turn with the joystick, but shouldn’t be that bad.

I’d suggest classes without much group utility frankly, rogue, warrior etc, my biggest weakness with the set up is targeting allies for stuff like dispels, speed boots etc. Power Infusion is fine because I just macro it.

Edit: the controller I use is the Xbox Elite 2, it has 4 paddles on the back like the steam deck, so its fairly seamless to switch between the two.

I don’t have experience with a controller, but I imagine there’s a lot of overlap with what the easiest classes are anyways.

I’d try Fury Warrior or BM Hunter. Isn’t fury like a two button rotation?

There’s at least 6-7 other buttons to play Fury optimally, but it all flows together so well that it really is pretty simple. Wait for the bright lights. Apply face to keyboard. Roll to win. A large part of the fun for me is its simplicity.

No matter how well you set it up, what addons, what macros and 'key’binds, you will always be limited in a game like WoW when you don’t use a keyboard and mouse.

But part of playing with alternate options is also assessing your own goals, you certainly cannot push top 1% using a controller, but what’s a realistic limit? OP needs to look at what can be done with ease and play within those limits or be severely hampered and feel run down when they keep failing.

I’ve pushed up to +23 keys last season, do mythic raids and have a 96 overall parse for Heroic Aberrus, its close enough that it shouldn’t really limit anyone in PvE once you get used to it.

You can absolutely do everything the game has to offer.

Except PvP, definitely not happening there.

Competitve pvp, yes I’d agree. its not good there.

I’ve decked pug bg spam in the past and its fine. if enough on the team are lost in the sauce in the bg…even pro game play on key/mouse playing isn’t turning it around.

Ya BG is fine, ain’t getting Gladiator though, lol.
