Hopefully this gets noticed by the other SC users
Pretty natural way to swap back and forth between cursor and mouselook here:
In short, have mouselook ON by default rather than ON when right trigger is held down. Because of the dual stage trigger, you can make the full pull activate your left mouse click binding. This allows you to move around naturally with camera control, and easily bring up the cursor to click with the right trigger.
Below is how to do it:
To do this, first make the following two macros:
- /run MouselookStart()
- /run MouselookStop()
Put them on an actionbar and remember to bind the two slots to keys in your in game keybindings.
Then, in the steam controller configuration tool, open up the right trigger bindings.
In soft pull, create a Start Press activator and set it to the in-game binding for MouselookStop. Then, create a Release Press activator for the soft pull, and set it to the in-game binding for MouselookStart. This will give you a cursor while the trigger is held, and return you to mouse look mode when released.
Finally, set the full pull of the right trigger to a Regular Press of Left Mouse. This will allow you to interact via the left mouse click.
The above describes how to have a good natural feel for going about the game, fighting and interacting with mobs & quest npcs. For the cases where you actually want a cursor to remain on screen all the time, I have a solution that works for me which I’ll describe below:
I use the joystick for movement, always run on click. This gives me the left pad for whatever I want.
I set it up as a touch menu, and on it I have regular and long press bindings for all the menu hotkeys, like bags, inventory, talents etc. All of these bindings are ON CLICK.
The main purpose of the touch menu though, is that I have left and right mouse bindings, as well as scroll up and scroll down. This is how I interact for crafting, inventory management, whatever I need for cursor mode. I simply put my finger on the left pad, and when I press the right mouse button, the cursor appears but does not click. With my finger on the pad, and my other pad controlling the mouse, I can scroll through text, left and right click, and open all the hotkeyed menus.
That is pretty much all I wanted to share, but since you are this far down I’ll just share the rest too.
I have 36 bindings on my XYBA buttons.
Left grip + XYBA = 1,2,3,4
XYBA without a mod = 5,6,7,8
Right Grip + XYBA = 9,0,-.=
Left trigger = CTRL
Left bumper = SHIFT
Set extra action bars to be CTRL+1, CTRL+2, etc - same with shift.
That is 36.
I have tab targetting on double tap of right pad. Jump on click of right pad.
Right bumper might as well be ALT, giving you 48 bindings on the XYBA.
Anyways, I think it feels great, and natural. The challenge is memorizing where your bindings are.
Take care and have fun!
