Stealing skins. Fair gameplay or?

Can you get banned for stealing skins?
I know you can get labeled as a ninja, blacklisted, w/e. But will blizzard actually do anything?

Edit. A lot of replies, saying that it isn’t yours until it’s in your bag.
What about loot? I alone killed it, I alone can loot it. Why should skinning be different? I killed it, I alone should be able to skin it. Or at least a grace period of 5-10 seconds.
Someone said “You shouldn’t loot until you’re ready to skin”. Yes, but sometimes people stand there and spam click waiting for you to loot.

No you can’t. I personally have had this happen. I whispered the guy, he told me to f*** myself and there’s nothing I could do about it. Soooo for the next 45 minutes I aoe farmed and didn’t loot a single thing. Omg did he get super upset for “wasting his time”! He gave up and I started looting all and skinning again.

I would think most of the time it’s just a misunderstanding, when it’s not just don’t loot and then go back when you know they are somewhere else.

Was on a horde druid and some alliance that can’t stealth stole one from me. Not smart to get into skinning war with someone with a stealth advantage.

i snipe the scales from ony pugs all the time. raid leader usually gets mad about it, all i tell them is it wasnt on the reserve list and he can buy them from me off the AH

No. It’s fair game out in the world. With the exception of what loot rules have been established for raids in regards to the higher end skins. Some roll for the skins. Some reserve for their guild.
Don’t loot until you’re ready to skin. I like skinning on my hunter because my pet can be engaged and I’m free to loot/skin as mobs die.

I was farming hipogryphs in Feralas today, and this lv45 alli rogue was also killing mobs. I let him be.
He could see I was skinning my mobs, as was he.
Anyway, I aoe’d a pack down and looted. As I start skinning, he runs up and starts skinning my mobs… like really? SW:P, Mind Blast, fear and a couple smites. Problem solved.
He got too cocky.

For this reason I bought a 2nd account to level both faction on the same server. I’ll leave my undead rogue stealthed near me and if I need to make some space then I can kill them regardless of faction

Hahaha that’s gold!

Until you skin the carcass, it isn’t your skin. It’s your kill, but you have to skin it before it becomes “your skin.” That’s Blizzard’s position. As Caxtren said, kill everything around you, but don’t loot anything. Since you have to loot each individual kill separately, go back to the first and loot-then-skin, rinsing and repeating until you’re out of carcasses.

Hopefully Karma does something to people that go through life thinking stealing and distressing others like this is ok. It’s not right at all, you did not kill it, you should not loot it. if the person is not a skinner then of course skin it so its not wasted but to just outright steal it, especially devilsaurs or other harder to kill creatures … shame

I thought Classic was about the “community” and good will and everyone singing happy songs. Really disappointing.

What is this I don’t even.

Why didn’t you just kill him?

Even in Vanilla it was the same. Care to guess how many tickets were opened because someone killed mobs to get to a copper vein, only to have someone else mine the node while they were killing the mobs? or same scenario for herbalists?

Care to guess what the GMs’ replies were to those tickets? “Until you mine it (pick it), it’s not yours.”

Welcome to the Classic experience. Except for your guild mates, there were no campfires and “Kum-ba-ya” sing-alongs in Vanilla, either.

Define “stealing”

If the mobs are just sitting there and you roll up and start to skin?
Are you hiding in stealth and stalking someone killing things and spam clicking to take the skin?

I would only be bannable if GMs could skin.

PvE server.

Was in a cave and he ran up and tapped two of my kills so I couldn’t skin them. On my way out I stealthed and returned the favor.

What’s wrong with me when I immediately thought of Gnome skins.

Someone kills something loots it, and I immediately skin it before he can.

That is janky as hell… but not illegal in game… unfortunately…

Sadly that community has died with the rest of society.

No.

No.

It’s just the ultimate litmus test of who is a scum bag.

This is probably one of the best things i’ve seen all day. Thank you for making my morning.
