Staying online remotely--is this bannable?

Sometimes when I’m at work, I’ll connect to my home PC via remote desktop and log in when there’s either no queue or a short one. Then, I’ll just connect to the game via remote desktop again every 20-30 minutes to break my toon’s AFK. I don’t use any scripts or macros; I do it manually. Is this okay? Is doing this a bannable offense?

Edit: To clarify: if I can log in at, say, 3:00 with a 2 hour queue so when I get home at 5:00, I’ve just logged in, I do. The problem is that a lot of people start logging in when they get back from home or school so you’re better safe than sorry by logging in a little before then.

If it is you might be about to find out. Lol.

It’s kind of a dick move though; if you can’t play it then log out and let someone else get it.
If you login remotely on your way home from work or something, or if you know there’s a 4 hour queue and login 4 hours before you’ll be home then I see no issue.

Doesnt sound like your breaking any rules. And its a tough call because i agree with the dude above that its a jerk move, but so many players are taking advantage with the same jerk moves that your at a disadvantage if you don’t. Tough call.

Remote ppl should be honored

It’s a pretty shady thing to do.

I try to log in so I’m either nearly out of the queue or just logged in when I got home. Being in game sucks anyway because you have to constantly connect. I’m just concerned about the allowability of connecting remotely and controlling my character from my phone, say.

Connecting remotely and actually playing is perfectly fine. A buddy on my server does it. But he’s actually playing. If you’re doing it just to hit a button and get out of AFK status so you remain logged in, that’s very shady.

How do you mean ‘shady’? Morally? Or in relation to Blizzard’s rules?

The very definition of “shady.”

You’re denying legitimate people time to play by circumventing the AFK feature out of greed.

There really is no nice way to put it.

of doubtful honesty or legality.

I’m asking you if you mean I’m being dishonest or if I’m breaking the rules. I just want to play the game. Am I really supposed to care about faceless strangers (who can absolutely use the same method) who cannot log in because Blizzard doesn’t do a better job of managing server load?

You’re being very dishonest.

Are you to care about others? If that’s how you feel, Classic is absolutely 100% NOT the game for you. Retail ----------> that way.

Its not shady, its not bannable. Youre not botting. Its no different than everyone that takes a break fir dinner or ti put the kids to bed and walks back ti their computwr to press the spacebar to keep from afking out. There’s no macros involved. No different than taking your laptop to work and just pressing the spacebar every 15 min til you get home to play. Does it help the queues for others. No. But hey. Maybe some people are going for the longest /played to 60 time!

I care about people I know, about my friends. I don’t care about strangers and neither do you, mate. I either do this or I have to wait until 10 PM to play. Think about it. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill.

I absolutely do, that’s the appeal to Classic.

Your mindset reeks of Retail.

I’m not saying this as an insult, but you are NOT Classic material.

Anyway, back on topic. You’re being shady and should feel bad.

If you’re logging in remotely to get in queue that’s one thing, but using RDP to keep from getting AFK logged, meh.

Using RDP to join the queue would be more like call ahead seating.

It’s not my intention. It’s just hard to predict when to start logging in so you don’t get a sudden massive queue. The other day I logged in at 2:00 with no queue, and logged out. I tried again 45 minutes later and I was in queue position 9500.

Then go play on a lower population server or take advantage of the free transfers.

My Horde guy is on a high population server but I don’t complain or resort to very shady acts. I accept it and get in when I can because I chose to play on a big server.

How about I play where I want? Where my friends are? Where my level 40 character is? Sound good?

Great news! Free transfers are coming. Tell your friends! Avoid being shady at the same time!

Everyone wins!
