Status Symbol Mounts

What mount or mounts would you consider to be a status symbol?

Black Qiraj Battle Tank.

Whenever i see one i always get surprised that there is still Scarab Lords playing the game.

This, or any of the old Gladiator mounts.

Other than that, I might take notice of a particularly rare one, but I wouldn’t consider them status symbols.

As of now?

Black Qiraji Tank if earned before TBC. A lot of people cheesed it in Wrath with new servers.

Brutosaur

TBC Amani War Bear

Black Proto Dragon if it wasn’t from BMAH

Tribute to Immortality Horse

Any Gladiator mount that isn’t on someone who cheesed it as a tank or dk.

Everything else has lost its value over time because you can infinitely farm the raids until it drops one shotting all the bosses. People that can’t even clear normal raiding running around on Invincible and Mimirons head which even by today’s standards were agonizingly difficult fights in order to even get the mount. Now it’s just cheese mode.

Original Status Symbol Mounts that are now too easy to get:
Rivendare Deathcharger
Ashes of A’lar
Twilight Drake
Black Drake
Mimiron’s Head
Invincible
Pureblood Fire Hawk
Alexstrasza Handmaiden (or whichever came from 25H)
Felsteel Annihilator
Mythic Guldan Mount
Mythic Argus Mount

Tyrael’s charger is always nice to see.

The Trial of the Grand Crusader horse
Black Qiraji Battle Tank

It wasn’t a mount but I’ve seen 3 OG Naxxramas Corrupted Ashbringer transmogs.

Gotta keep in mind a lot of people with the mount got it in wrath when the gates bugged on new servers. Just required a bit of time then, nothing like what it was in vanilla.

I never even knew this one a thing.

I guess you learn something new everyday.

The old Armored Netherwing Drakes as they were the first Gladiator Mounts to be released. Other players are mentioning Scarab Lords but I see them semi frequently on my MoP world boss runs. I don’t know if its the same player with a dozen alts, but I do run into a player with the Scarab Lord title semi frequently. It is still a special one to have I guess I’m more surprised how often I see them.

I’ll go with the Brewfest Ram

Was a statement to say “I was there in TBC being apart of that grind life, even back then”

It wasn’t that they bugged on new servers. It’s that Blizzard gave their war efforts auto complete functionality so all you had to do was assemble a scepter and ring the gong. After this abuse they made gates just automatically opened. Then people would all coordinate a day and time to ring the ring and how long that window (I believe 8 or 24 hrs, maybe 12) would be open for people who weren’t on at that specific time.

I remember my friend sending me a video of some EU guy and the forum drama he caused because he just transferred over, rang the gong then left the server basically saying “Yeah I rang the gong at this time so yeah, you better hurry if you want it.” Then a lot of people crying they had work that day and missed their easy mount.

Some mounts are true status symbols, but are hard to notice because they blend in with lesser mounts or are ground-only so don’t get used much. These are the ones that will make me spin around to go check them out and do a /cheer.

The Black Qiraji battle tank
The Netherwing Gladiator mount from BC
The Big Blizzard Bear
Frenzied Feltalon
ANY of the Pandaren phoenixes. I’m still mad about those, but I won’t withhold my /cheer just because I’m bitter.

They weren’t supposed to be closed. That was the bug.

Most of the unobtainable mounts.

My favorites to see are any Glad mounts(especially the netherwings), Black/plagued proto drakes, TOC horses, and the MoP Cmode phoenix mounts.
I’ve only seen 1 person riding the Black Qiraj back on the Runetotem server years ago.

No, they were meant to be closed. Just the War Effort operated in 2 phases. One which involved material turn ins then once that was completed the questline for guilds opened up allowing them to do the whole assembling of a scepter. However it wasn’t until the gong was rang you could actually enter into AQ past the Scarab Wall.

It was after people abused this and got Scarab Lord on a toon of people in Wrath they hotfixed new servers to automatically have the gates opened and the gong ringing would count as past the window.

White raptor.

We’re talkin Vanilla.

Still actually kinda miffed they didn’t put those back in on Classic launch for a brief time.

There was also that one dude who got a gnome epic mount that didn’t make it to launch since they decided to not implement it because a GM screwed up and sent him the wrong mount. I think he said he accidentally deleted his epic mount and wanted it restored. Later got his account banned because he tried selling the account and in the tagline it had “HAS X MECHANOSTRIDER!”

Was not hard for them to figure out what account it was I imagine.

I usually only notice some of the super rare drop ones. Mounts don’t have the same meaning that the used to.

Spectral griffin hasn’t been mentioned. Mounts just dont do it for me anymore. I use the same 2 or 3 mounts, some rare some not. Whatever matches my xmog set really.

I’m more drawn to rare pets, though.
