Stats > ilvl?

Should I always prioritize stats over ilvl, unless the equipment is a significant upgrade?

Also, fix tab targeting Blizz; I’m dying out here.

One gives you a chance to enter tougher content with better rewards, the other improves your performance. I prioritize stats because I prefer to be a valuable asset in easier content. An then when I’ll have the ilevel for harder content I’ll be hitting mobs a lot harder than someone who only valued ilevel. Ultimately, it’s your choice.

Holy cow tab targeting is atrocious right now. Yea sure select the mob slightly behind me so i cant attack it, brilliant

Depends on your class and spec, some likes secondaries, some like primary

Everything has stat weights and higher item levels means more stats.

Ilvl is usefull in getting in groups/ ilvl restricted systems . In actual productivity of your class, it is bad.

Stats are definitely > ilvl, but only if they prove to provide a substantial buff.
Just sim yourself on raidbots or something everytime you get an item and you’re cool.

Best stats on my butt.
Best ilvl in the bag.

Sacrifice a gnome or 12 that best stats end up on best ilvl.

this exactly, just keep ur highest ilvl stuff in bags cause ppl wont invite u otherwise rofl

Best way to know is to sim yourself. Otherwise you’ll just be speculating whether the piece with your best stats is better than the higher ilvl piece with your worst. And you won’t even know what your best/worst are as stat priorities change as you get more or less of each stat, particularly later in this xpac when diminishing returns on secondary stats becomes more of a factor.

I think most classes right now are better off going with the higher ilvl piece because primary stats are weighted higher early in xpacs and secondaries are closer to one another. For example right now all my stat weights are within like 20% of each other whereas in 8.3 they were often very discrepant, and one point of Intellect is worth like 3x of any particular secondary.

That’s not always true, ilvl = more primary stats, and for some specs, primary is worth than secondary.

Yes, Stats are primarily more important. Just be sure to carefully compare. I had a green that happened to be better than a blue at one point in every single stat and they shared the same ilvl. It can happen but that’s usually during leveling, not end game.

Icey veins website is a great resource for such info.

when in doubt, sim it.

Depends on a lot of things.

Significant ilvl upgrades could be TRUE upgrades for all your specs, but marginally ones could be an upgrade for one spec but not another.

Also, sometimes the secondary stats on a new item could throw off your stat balance in such a way to make your DPS/HPS feel worse.

I’ve actually even simmed my gear with a new higher ilvl item only to have another slot change to a lower ilvl I still have to balance the new item out.

you can sim to find out your stat weights. then you base it on that. or use the add-on pawn. or both.

stats>ilvl only for neck/rings cause they don’t have main stat, which is always prio.

And ofc you shouln’t use bad trinkets just because of ilvl

Yeah… about that tab targetting. I found myself with 7 mobs in Torghast right in front of me, and i somehow tabbed to a jar way in the back of the room.

That’s also not true. Depending on your stat weights, enough of 2 bad stats will outweigh 2 good ones. The only way to be sure is to sim it.

The jar was the real threat and the game knows it. That’s why the bad guys don’t break them to get the power within.

Beware the jars…
