State of Feral

The spec feels absoueltly miserable to play in every sense of the word. Can they ever get this thing right or what ?

“Getting a spec right” is always going to be highly subjective. I’m quite enjoying feral in TWW. If nothing else, Blizzard finally resolved the identity crisis the spec as it relates to snapshotting.

What is it that you don’t like about the spec? Perhaps there are things we might be able to suggest to help you enjoy it more; but just a generic feral = miserable isn’t really something anyone can help with.

Its Fine to me, Except I really miss TF resets for Dungeons/Trash.

Feel like this is why the change in pace doesnt bother me. I had to choose between Predator and infinite energy or, Sabertooth (believe that was choice at rhe beginning of SL).

So it feels like im back at that

Is there a set of talents that one can use to essentially eliminate sitting around doing nothing while your energy pools? I’m not being facetious, all the previous times I played this spec it felt like energy was plentiful. Now, it feels like it’s built around moments of feast and famine and while I understand this might be something that actually draws people in, I guess because it rewards planning while giving you a moment to stop and think, it feels miserable just sitting around doing nothing.

I wouldn’t want to wholesale change the spec to what I personally prefer, but if there is a way to play a slightly different style based on talent choices, I’d be much happier.

There are talents you can take that will give you higher effective energy and/or regen, but even with all of those talents it’s going to feel far slower than any time since like MoP. Blizzard was very intentional with significantly reducing the energy on hand for feral with TWW. Beyond the obvious examples of “you get more energy from X” talents in the spec tree, Feral Frenzy, Convoke the Spirits, and Apex Predator’s Cravings indirectly help the feel with lower energy. In the case of Convoke you may even consider snagging Ashamane’s Guidance so you can hit it every minute.

Like I said though, these will only be marginal improvements to the feel of sitting around waiting on energy to pool. The spec is fundamentally built to have a flurry of activity followed by downtime. There will be less downtime as we get more haste and crit as well, but I’m not going to pretend like it won’t still be a spec with a lot of time waiting for your next damage moment.

You hit the nail on the head here. This is exactly what the spec is built around.

You could potentially experiment with the old-school Owlweaving concept that was optimal DPS for feral for a couple expansions in recent memory. While we don’t have access to Moonkin form anymore, the general idea would still work. Basically once you’ve burned through your energy, you could drop into caster form and start throwing out balance spells until your energy replenishes. If you prioritize taking Fluid Form, you wouldn’t even necessarily lose the GCD on the shift back into cat form. This would give you something to do besides just auto attacking.

How much does your position on a dps chart matter to you?

Theres a few talents that could “speed” things up.

You can go 2/2 in Tireless Pursuit
Moment of Clarity
Apex Predators Craving
Convoke of the Spirits

I wonder if bear would be good for that. Throw up a few mangles, maybe a thrash and swipe, then get aggro and die in one hit when you return to cat. Or survive and be legendary.

It’s kind of funny - in past interviews they said for the class or others people do not like standing around waiting too long for stuff to press and then they slow down feral quit a bit from previous expansions. I’m not saying the changes are bad just funny how they go back and forth.

I really wish they brought back tiger’s fury resetting on mobs death - as it made world content/solo stuff way more smooth but overall I seem to be doing fine using a bleed build killing stuff and jumping from pack to pack.

The pacing of the spec and the snapshot mechanics don’t feel all that bad to me, but by god do I want my extra range back. Being inside a mobs butt is driving me mad!

Feral is OK at the moment, although agree it feels worse with the current state of energy. Some feral players are die hard snapshot stans, but the problem with snapshotting is that it’s always been very over or undertuned. Blizzard rarely lets it stay overtuned for long, so it spends more time being undertuned. I would rather they shifted it to dynamic and tuned accordingly, especially with Aug now existing.

None at all, so thanks a ton for the suggestions. I’ll try them out soon!

This makes me wonder if there’s an opportunity for bearweaving there, what with Wildpower Surge looking to encourage it. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are enough damaging abilities to use after Mangle, and I know that it is currently a DPS loss.

No, there’s not much you can do for DPS wise if you bear-weave, but as it stands, Feral still remains a little squishy, so getting in a Frenzied Regen followed up by a juiced up Mangle still wouldn’t hurt

The same situation happened when we were bite-spamming machines when snapshotting was nearly irrelevant, as well. While this is a valid concern, Blizzard hasn’t demonstrated an ability to properly tune feral at any point on its history long term. It’s not like we could count on being in a good place in DF tuning-wise when snapshotting was barely an afterthought for the spec. If our tuning is going to be feast or famine anyway, I’d rather have it be in an environment where our primary mechanic actually means something.

Yeah that’s why I didn’t really suggest bear weaving. Wildpower Surge is a good option for the times when you need the defense of bear form. It doesn’t really work out as a viable DPS alternative if you’re looking to just pass the time for energy regeneration.

I feel like my damage is fine on my main, but I’m getting hit like a TRUCK. Like every enemy swing is a wrecking ball slamming into my little kitty body.

And there’s nothing I can do about it except keep barksin and survival instincts up. But other than that and healing, i’m screwed.

Delves are sucking hard for me due to that fact.
