So I leveled a priest to 39 and just kinda stopped for no real reason. Anyways, I want wanting to come back, and maybe start on a new server and wanted some advise. I am wanting to play a paladin, and curious about some good servers to play on? I’m willing to play on a pvp server, but i’m not sure if I want to, so pve is fine with me too. Also what would be a good profession to get? Thank you in advanced.
Edit: I’ll main a holy paladin of course.

I’m playing on bigglesworth and it has a fair alliance:ratio (45:55 last I checked). I’d definitely suggest looking into starting on a server thats at least fairly balanced and not overly populated (unless if you want queue times). PvP servers can be annoying to play on due to campers and whatnot (especially in BRM). Since our damage output is kind of limited grinding things out in the open world can be slow or dangerous if someone decides to attack you.
I personally went mining/BS and haven’t really made any money with it and the gear for holy paladins is basically not there. There are some great leatherworking craftables for healers. Otherwise you can always just do 2 gathering professions and make money that way to buy whatever you need that others can craft for you.
You didn’t ask about leveling, but I’ll give you some insight there anyways. I personally leveled as prot (consecration->deep prot) and never had an issue finding a dungeon group. I probably only leveled 3-4 levels with quests after hitting 20 for consecration. You can certainly level as whichever spec, but if you want to tank anything definitely pick up consecration first and then choose whichever tree. Aoe grinding is a great way to level and farm, so if you do choose a pve server you’ll have more uninstanced choices too.
Edit: if you do decide to dabble in PvP, engineering is also a great option!

If you decide to come back, just be aware that it won’t be like it was back in September. If I were you, I’d actually spec prot to level at least until 50 if you want to do dungeons. As for servers, if you go PvE you really can pick pretty much any high pop server and be fine as Alliance.
Edit: any high pop PvE serve except Mankrik. That’s the only Horde dominated PvE server that I know of.

@Linky
I like pvp servers, just not when leveling, as you pointed out it is not fair or balanced. Thank you for the advice. I think I will do Mining/Skinning, and drop skinning for Engineering later, it’s a great idea, thank you! Also I had no idea about the leveling part, so that was super helpful. I was planning on going ret, and now I will level as prot.
@Negald
Thank you for the advice, I will go prot to 50, and thanks for the warning about Mankrik! <3

You’ll get plenty more mileage out of aoe groups too with consecration. Just make sure you downrank after your first consecration. I typically do max rank on pull and then just do rank 1/2 over and over. I actually stayed prot well after I hit 60 since tanks are always in demand and groups seem to never need heals for dungeons in my server. So being able to tank will get you more groups and it will help you build up your healing set at the same time. You can also look into the prot/holy build (you just need 5/5 illumination and you’re set) so that you can heal when needed and tank dungeons/aoe grind with ease.

Is the purpose of down-ranking it for mana efficiency? Hmm I guess it would be beneficial to do a hybrid holy/prot spec and do both. Is there a particular build people use for the 5/5 illumination for the prot/holy build? I tried looking it up and didn’t find anything on it. Thank you so much for your help, I greatly appreciate it!
I highly recommend the RP-PvP servers if you enjoy the RP aspect of the game. I play on both and have had nothing but a great time. Deviate Delight is my main server where I play alliance and it is an amazing community, where people mostly know each other and just have a fun time, but it’s smaller and largely leveled. For a player starting over, Grobbulus, where I play horde, is probably better as it’s larger you’ll have an easier time finding groups and the leveling process with feel more full. The community there is great as well for the most part, but as with any larger population, you have more idiots as well.
Just make sure you don’t play too much, or Blizzard puts you on a temp ban for entering too many instances for the day.
I find this to be good advice. This is what I did. I took Herb and Skinning. Not only because you make decent money, as a level 31 I have over 100G which I don’t think is too shabby, but it’s so much easier to level gathering professions. You basically level them while questing.
I know you’re joking but it’s not bad advice. There is a whole big exciting world out there. Don’t miss it because you’re stuck inside playing a video game.
@Vorena
My 39 Priest is actually on Grobbulus, I had no idea if it was still a good server or not since I went out of touch with classic for a while now. Thank you for the advice! I might just start my new character on there and use my priest as an alt or something.
Yeah, so tanking as a paladin can have Mana issues if you don’t manage your rotation properly. You might have anywhere between 2k-3.5k Mana as prot at 60. Max rank consecration is 500-600 Mana. So if you used that multiple times you’d be oom within 30 seconds when you include other spells that you’ll be casting. The most important part is getting the initial aggro so that they start beating on you and you can get more threat with your blocks and ret aura. So max rank will help with that and then throwing down a lower ranked version will just help maintain your threat.
I did a quick search to see what prot/holy builds are recommended but didn’t find anything so here’s one that I threw together just now. The first 10 points in the holy tree can be moved around to your playstyle. Just note that seal of righteousness is your main threat ability for single targets so getting imp seal of righteousness over reduced kickback from spells might be a better choice. https ://classicdb.ch/?talent#sVxuzxZVhtILzVo

yeah, it’s still very active and it’s still a cool community. Inbound transfers from non-RP servers have somewhat watered down the degree to which it is RP focused, but the RP is still there if you seek it out.

Main a 20/?/? Paladin instead. You have enough Holy to heal and won’t have to give 100 gold per week.
