haven’t heard from OP, and looks like he’s doing a budget build with all new parts
if you’re going AM4 then i would get the 5600x or the 5700x. they are around $200 right now. if’s a choice between higher base speed or 2 extra cores. if you can afford the 5800x3d then go for it, but it is double the price.
the 5600x/5700x are 65 watts cpu so don’t really need extreme cooling
saving up for AM5 is imo better in the long run but yeah the prices sucks right now
the monitor is 1440p so i would get a gpu with at least 8 GB of RAM
as far as cases, bigger cases has better airflow
that’s all i cam think of for now
edit:
dammit 5700x just jumped to $225
5800X3D did drop $35 yesterday on Amazon–so down to $365
Looking to use it only for gaming–and I am trying to get 1440p with a decent FPS.
That being said, I was hoping for around $1k but it is looking more and more like around $1300-$1500 not counting the monitor…but I am waiting to see how things shake out over the next month. There is so much freaking turmoil in so many markets, just have things marked and looking to catch things on the cheap but I have read nothing but good reviews about the 5800X3D for its price.
EDIT: Weird, guess I should have though more–bet they sold a chunk and today I look at it is back to $399–probably too many gamers reading these posts
More you push monitor resolution, CPU bottleneck becomes less. Just buy better price/performance CPU and platform for 1440p.

So I am looking at Motherboards in regards to this–and I am far from educated when it comes to the terminology. I do not need/want WiFi – and it looks like that runs about an extra $100?? What are the differences with the Letters for these motherboards like:
ASUS ROG Strix X570-E
ASUS ROG Strix X570-F
And is this one priced so much higher due to DDR4 and is it worth it?
Asus ROG Strix Gaming AM4 AMD X570 ATX DDR4-SDRAM Motherboard
EDIT: And it looks like most if not all of them are DDR4 anyhow–do not get the price difference with so many of these…
The X570-E has:
Guess wanting to know why it is so much cheaper than the X570 alone–is it just because of the amount of inventory In Stock?
That is a good question. I was just looking at the prices and found that unusual. It could very well be a combination of that, the new gen being a thing, etc…
There is one more model. Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero. This board was my aim if my old Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master dies.
For sure–lots of them out there and even that Motherboard is $100 cheaper than the X570 alone…this actually looks pretty good:
$370 at Amazon atm.
But it is not DDR4 and it says RAM Tech is DIMM–what is difference there? EDIT–take that back, it does say DDR4 OptiMem III …
But what the heck is DIMM
DIMM is Dual In-line Memory Module. Its your RAM. All X570 uses DDR4. Optimem III is Asus’ algorithm for the RAM support.
The main reason I picked Dark Hero is the passive chipset heatsink. Regular Hero chipset heatsink got a fan installed. Fans got a limited lifetime.
Also, i5-13600K performance is great.

if budget is still a concern, i would look at the B550 motherboards. it is generally less expensive. X570 do have better VRMs if you want to overclock the CPU, and also more M.2 slots for faster SSDs. but if you are not doing those, i would look at the B550 to save some money.
Price is always a concern–and I am hoping over the next month I can just find some items I am keeping an eye on at a discounted sale price…
The SSD I have been looking at is:
WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe™ SSD 1 TB
And not looking to Overclock due to using the 5800X3D as my first choice and it seems to not allow it nor is it necessarily needed?
All X570 boards are DD4 it is the only RAM it is designed to support. The reason the ASUS -e motherboards are expensive is because the -e line was originally designed for multiple GPUs so that the 2nd fuil PCI-E x 16 slot can go up to x8 speeds while most X570 motherboards 2nd pcie-16 slot is just x4 through the chipset. The X-570F is probably expensive because it was discontinued in favor of b550 boards and the more popular TUF-X570 the X570-F stats were identical to the TUF-X570-PRO. If you see it for much more than 229 it is probably scalper price.
Yea–I was just reading about a thread about Motherboard pricing and such–seems like the pricing for this component is still out of whack from recent years…and now AMD announcing a cut back for the AMD 5 motherboards…
Regardless, taking your advice and looking into the B550 boards as it is my understanding that the 5800X3D really does not work well for over clocking and it is not needed…correct me if I am wrong.
5800X3D has disabled overclocking (like playing with voltages) while all Ryzens pretty much don’t “need” any active OC as they adjust their clocks based on thermals. You can play with PBO but IMHO not really worth it.
And as mentioned you don’t really need X570 board even for PBO OC. You can look at A520, B550, or 400 series boards - it all comes down to which PCIe version you want and what I/O setup.
So I purchased the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as I saw the price drop on NewEgg and Amazon was actually sold out–so did not want to miss out and picked it up at $325.
Was just browsing around today and saw this Graphics Card heavily discounted–still trying to hit 60 FPS with 1440p–can this thing pull it off and is the 1845 mhz just too low? Any other thoughts with this or what are benchmarks I need with a GPU to pull this off?
MSI Gaming AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 128-bit 8GB GDDR6 DP/HDMI Dual Torx Fans FreeSync DirectX 12 VR Ready OC Graphics Card (RX 6600 XT MECH 2X 8G OC)
Actually, this looks like it would be worth the bump up–I guess the new Graphics Card coming out in 2 weeks might be driving these price cuts?
MSI Gaming Radeon RX 6700 XT 192-bit 12GB GDDR6 DP/HDMI Dual Torx 3.0 Fans FreeSync DirectX 12 VR Ready OC Graphics Card (RX 6700 XT MECH 2X 12G OC)
Didn’t really read the whole thread since I have shotty internet and it takes a decade and a half to load sometimes.
What exactly is your budget? Running wow at 60 fps is trivial and doesn’t require too much to run.
Seeing as you just dropped some nice change for a 5800x3d. You’d probably want something in the ball park of the 3070/6800 or better for 1440p.
If you’re open to the used market a 3070/2080ti can be had for sub $400 and a 6800xt can be had for a little more than 400
I did drop a bit on the CPU but with all the advice and reviews I read, think it was by far best bang for buck out there–but it looks like the 6700 XT can pull in what I would need? If I go as high as a 6800 than I would have to get a motherboard to support the two other things and that is another increased cost?
My monitor is capable of 144 with DP input and 100 with HDMI but I will be using DP–I just doubt I will hit that high and just looking for something middle of the road for cost.
6700XT is usually recommended for 1440p but WoW’s engine slightly favor’s Nvidia cards so 3060Ti might be more up your alley. Bestbuy usually has 3060Ti Founders Editions on their website for In store pickup for 399.99 if your looking for a new card.
