I’m not really good with words and I made one of these posts a long time ago but I’ve been having trouble making characters for a long time due to my ocd. I’ve had some characters and leveled them but they never really stuck with me. Its currently under control so I’m free to finally play Classic.
What I was wondering is if anyone could help me decide what server type to go for. I am making a small list to sort of show what I’m after in a server and hopefully if someone here feels up to it they can share some advice!
-
I’m looking for a server with a lot of activity. People leveling characters still who I can group up with.
-
Active world pvp! I don’t care if I get ganked or beaten up all the way to 60 I just want to pick fights.w
-
I don’t know if this sounds arrogant or not but I know reputation is important in classic. This sort of clashes with my first requirement because I’m unsure if I can make a name for myself if there are hundreds or thousands of other Warlocks on the server. I just want to be known as a dependable Warlock.
That’s all I can really think of at the moment besides plenty of close knit guilds to join.
I guess what I’m just asking should I go for a full/populated server or should I go for a low to medium population server and if anyone has any good suggestions for one.
Thank you if you read through all of this! I really do appreciate it!
- Very low chance of finding dungeon pugs. Get some friends and this is not an issue.
- Most open world pvp/gankfests now generally occur in Silithus if any where. Most open world gankfests have died down.
This is a Faerlina take. May be different on other high pop servers.

Honestly, Grobbulus seems to tick all of those boxes. If you roll Horde just know you’ll be rolling on the disadvantaged side, but our community is still healthy and there’s plenty of people still leveling. It being an RPPvP server means that many players aren’t about rushing through leveling and we have quite a few leveling guilds that can help with finding groups consistently.

Yeah, the few times I played so far I’ve done on Grobbulus, Deviate Delight and Bloodsail Buccaneers. I don’t have any bad experiences on the server but I was once part of a guild and I think they got a little tired of me being unable to choose a class and resulting in inactivity.
I’ll have to send them an apology letter or something.
Thank you both so much for replying!

I play on Deviate Delight alliance and grob horde. While I love DD, the leveling scene has become pretty thin. Other people are leveling, but not enough to where you can reasonably find a dungeon group when you want. It takes a good deal of effort just to put together a low level dungeon group nowadays. Once you get to max level, you can find anything you want, but that’s a big “once”.
Grob has a much healthier leveling population. When I was leveling my shammy (I hit 60 probably two months ago) I found dungeons groups for nearly everything I wanted and generally met fun people on my way to 60. For a new character, I highly recommend grob horde. I recently made an undead priest (and I’m only at level 13 right now, so I haven’t looked for any dungeon groups yet, maybe I’ll see you out there)

I sort of have one last question for all of you! Its a bit irrelevant to the conversation but how needed are Warlocks on most servers? I like making myself useful and hope maybe that can help me settle into a guild and the server in general.
Warlock is a good choice. Most raid groups I’ve been in are light on warlocks and warlocks are in high demand due to their ability to summon. You’ll have a lot better luck advertising “LF1M Tank BRD can summon” than “LF1M tank BRD”
Someone asked here a few weeks ago what the most in demand class was, and my take then was that it was a toss up between priests and warlocks, so do you want to DPS or heal. If you want to caster DPS warlock is a great choice. I started leveling one myself, but I found that I enjoy the mage flavor of caster DPS a lot more, so now my warlock is just a summoning alt, but that’s my personal opinion. My brother is in my guild and he mains a warlock and he absolutely loves it.
Warlocks are great utility and once you hit AQ they start being truly top tier DPS. You’ll almost always have a spot in a raid group, just make sure you have tons of soul shards, lol

yeah the whole shard dynamic was one of the things that turned me off to the class. it’s kind of irritating to constantly be worrying about if you have enough shards (or enough bag space for the shards, they don’t stack).

Nice! I don’t think I’ll mind much carrying around shards as long as I’m useful to my team! I’m probably going tailoring too and gonna be able to make special soul shard bags!
Tailoring is also highly advisable for a warlock because the crated bloodvine set requires 300 tailoring to get the set bonus of 2% crit and that is the best in slot set for warlocks, at least through phase 4 (I don’t know if there are better things in AQ, perhaps this changes).
to have any hope of getting a group while leveling you need to be on a Medium-High or High population server. also be sure to choose a server that’s relatively close to you. US-East are located in Chicago while US-West is located in California.
It could also help to scope out some leveling guilds on whatever server you decide on.
Here is a website with a decent representation of faction balance and population numbers:
https://ironforge.pro/servers/?locale=US&realm=PvP-PvP%20RP
If you are in the continental US, I’m not sure it really matters too much whether you are on an east coast or west coast server from a latency standpoint. My alliance characters are on an east coast server and my horde characters are on a west coast server, I have a relatively normal internet connection and I don’t really notice a difference in connection. I experience lag when there are a lot of players in one place (i.e. when the ony head drops) on both servers, but other than that it is fine.
It should be noted that I’m on the west coast and I actually have more lag on my west coast server than my east coast server, but that may be just due to the fact that more people play on that server. Also, raid times on the two are more or less the same as there are many people from both coasts on both servers.
im in the same boat, im thinking of starting a pally i figure everyone can use a healer and if tbc does come out all three roles are open… i mean ret is decent in pvp but i wouldnt say top tier pve dps. ive been looking at grobbulus or maybe pagle. what do you guys think about those servers?
I’d say Grobbulus or any of the RPPvPs. I’ve personally didn’t enjoy phase2 as much as I wanted and made the switch from Thunderfury to Westfall. Lots of leveling there.
I think the obvious question is what kind of server do you want to play on? I have no personal experience with Pagle, but if you want a PvE server, I’ve heard good things about it for alliance (for horde I think Mankrik is the PvE server to go to). Personally, I like the RP-PvP server dynamic. I want to be on a PvP server, because the game just feels incomplete without the ability to attack members of the opposing faction if I want, but I like the vibe on RP servers a lot more, people are friendlier and the RP is a lot of fun.
honestly im looking for an active server in terms of raiding and lvl 60 5 mans lbrs ubrs etc a decent level community would be nice if i cant run every low lvl dungeon im ok with that
Hopefully someone from Pagle weighs in, because I have no personal experience there, but I think you’ll find that on both grob and pagle…it’s really just a personal question of whether you want a PvP or PvE server.
i know pagle has something like 6k raiders based on ironforge pro and grob is about 4.5k i think and in the grand scheme of it all im not sure you will really notice that difference
