Starting lvling in different zones

Hey guys, back in vanilla, could you actually quest in different zones from your starting area? I’d like to make a warlock but I really want to experience Mulgore since it was my very first zone back when the game launched and I have very found memories of this place.

So first of all, can you actually grab quests at the beginning? Also in my case, there wouldn’t be any warlock trainers around so that could be difficult. Was it doable back then, because I can’t recall anyone doing it at that time

yes you could travel from the human zone to the night elf zone and start there for example.

You can.

But as you mentioned, no class trainer so that sounds like shooting yourself in the foot.

Its a long run to mulgore…

As someone else mentioned, the class trainers for classes not available to the race will be absent. So, any warrior should be able to level in any starting zone, but other than that you’ll be traveling back and forth to train ranks of abilities/spells.

Basically, it’s not really worth the effort to try to do the intro levels outside your starting zone.

Sure you could do it, but due to the lack of quests and travel time back to your trainer it will probably take you 4x as long to get to level 10 compared to just sticking to your own starting zone.

Also, without any quests to do, trying to level in another allied race’s starting zone is going to be reaaaaaaally boring.

It might be worth it if your hunting for some reputation. Undead especially had a rough time with faction rep at start.

isn’t there also a thing where you can only get your lvl 10 class quest in your initial zone or something ? Saw someone mention this somewhere in the forums

Not all quests are available either. There’s a number of “class specific” and “race specific” quests you won’t be able to do.

Lotta naysayers in this thread.

OP, stay in Tirisfal/Durotar until level 4. Train corruption, get your imp + blood pact.

From there, run to Mulgore. If you don’t mind being a tiny bit behind the population, get some flight paths on the way (highly suggest doing this):

I’m going to assume you’re undead just because it’s the most complete version of the path, and you can just splice the path if you’re orc: Run to the zeppelin tower just south of Brill > zepp to Durotar > flight path in Org (skip if Orc) > set hearth in Org (Razor Hill if orc) > run to Ratchet, get FP > run to XR, get FP > run to Camp Taurajo, get FP > run to Thunder Bluff, get FP > run to start zone and begin questing. You need to arrive level 5 or under to keep the quests green.

Quest in the starting zone + the next Mulgore zone until you reach level 8 still using level 4 abilities (easy on a warlock). Hearth to Org/Razor Hill and train Life tap, shadowbolt, curse of agony, fear, and imp’s firebolt. Fly back to Thunderbluff and continue Mulgore. You can finish the entire zone with level 8 spells and then move on to XR/Silverpine and continue as normal.

Obviously this all takes longer, but a bit of extra time is the price you pay to do things out of the ordinary.

I took my gnome from the start to Human starting zone for + Rep and Easy quest chains.

I didn’t like Mech, so by level 40-45ish I was able to obtain Horse mount.

You can, you just have to make the death march of a few minutes to far too many minutes, depending on where you are.

thanks bro !

I’m gnaked gnome running to Darnassus at level 1. Gotta start working toward that big gnome battle-cat.

This is true. For example, the rogue level 10 quests are race-specific. On the other hand, warlock and mage (I’m pretty sure) are not. It’s a good idea for anyone who wants to leave their starting area to check first unless they don’t mind going back a few levels later.

I plan on lvling a night elf warrior in Elwynn Forest. Yes it takes more time, but im playing to have fun after all.

I’m telling you, for some races, they couldn’t do the very first 1-5 quests at another races’ location. I experienced that firsthand in Vanilla. Maybe it was only some races, not all. Maybe it was changed at some point.

I 100% agree with you. You don’t wanna hear about how tough it was for my young pally to quest in Mulgore. A nightmare I won’t soon repeat.

Planning to run my NE Hunter to Elwynn to relive my past glory. Doing the first 5 levels in Teldrassil though. Then I can run to SW for training. Guessing I won’t be missing too much.

I’ll be running my Gnome Warlock to Elven lands. Just to get the rep for the level 60 mount. Dire Maul won’t be out anytime soon when the game launches, and I flat out deny riding those Mechano Striders at level 60. I’ll take a Darnassian Saber instead tyvm!
