Starting a warrior

I’m about to roll a Warrior because i’d like to start focusing on tanking. My only concern is that I’ll be washed out due to how many there are out there. However, i really enjoy classes that actually use their weapons. I have a druid up to 22 and a shaman up to 19. Like the tanking on druid, and the melee on shaman so thought Warrior would be the right fit.

Edit: Ended up going Troll mon. Wish me luck!

Should i just stick with the druid for tanking or would warrior just be better overall? also what race (horde) fits best? thinking Undead for cool points and free food hehe

There’s never any shortage for tanks who are running 5-man instances. Raid tanking may be ‘washed out’ in the sense that raiding guilds usually already have their main tanks, their off-tanks, and the tank alts of other members.

As for the best race, the math-nerds will likely tell you to go Orc for the weapon skill bonus to axes. But if you’re not exactly seeking to be a raid tank, that factor really isn’t a major consideration for 5-mans. In which case, go for what you think is best. Presumably your Shaman isn’t a Tauren, so if you have an Orc or Troll Shaman, then make an Undead Warrior.

Just make sure it’s an orc or a human(to save yourself 40% dmg loss on glances on 63 mobs without paying a fortune), otherwise most warriors are probably significantly more washed up than you are, seriously, it’s a mess(most don’t even have a shield macro xD).

I agree that undead are the coolest looking warriors of all. They have got sick animations and the pvp set looks really good on them. Most people will advise you to go orc for stun res and wep skill, or tauroon for hp and hitbox warstomp etc.

I don’t even have a shield

Wheres the dislike button

Who needs a shield? Greater stoneshield potion is all i ever need

Kidding obviously i have a shield…we have gotten enough drillborer discs that even our healing pallies have them sitting in banks.

Well shieldbash still interrupts casts for longer than pummel does so I guess we still got that lol

He wants to tank dude, the options are human or troll.

Warriors are lots of fun…with good support. Warriors need support to really shine their brightest. IMO you need to be in a good, active guild to get the best out of a warrior.

Warriors are still in demand, you might be at the bottom of the list of 20 warriors, but there are guilds still recruiting warriors, I see the recruitment posts constantly. Warrior tanks, less demand in raids because they are probably set in stone at this point unless a guild is replacing a tank for some reason.

Orc is the best race for a warrior because you do not need to buy edgemasters to get to hit cap easily, you just need to use axes and you only need 6% hit instead of 9% without weapon skill. On top of the 25% attack power cool down and stun resistance (yes stun resist is good in raids)

Good luck OP, I think you’re going to enjoy it. Vanilla warrior is a really cool and dynamic class. I was so stoked to get back to it after so many years in post-cata retail and all of the changes. Stances, weapon skills, all of the things that they took out because they were “too clunky” or “not streamlined enough”.

I get the impression that the state of warriors in Vanilla was what they were hoping to get for all classes, but were never able to get there. (Three good specs, PvE and PvP viable, clear class fantasy, strengths and weaknesses, etc).

As far as relative population goes, it’s true that warriors were and are the most-played class, but if you research and put the work in and play well, you will stand out from many of the others.

Troll? Why Troll? (Serious question)

I’ve been playin warrior over ten years and this is coming from someone who leveled up my first classic char end of p3 beginning of p4. Here is some tips you may find useful

-leveling: this is going to be a challenge, you die a lot and rarely can take on more than one mob at a time. My advice for this is grouping for quests and running dungeons. Even though the boost culture is huge groups leveling always needs tanks so get a shield early. Best thing I can say is patience, it will pay off at the end

-professions: I took armor smithing and mining. Now armorsmithing is arguably a gold sink but it’s personal preference. I would suggest at least one gathering prof as wars are expensive

-cost: repair costs are high, warriors don’t reel in the dough like other classes so unless you have a main start saving for your mount very early. I did not get mine until level 45. When you hit 60 you will absolutely want LHH one of our BIS almost all of classic it’s about 1.5-1.7k in mats alone. If you are picking troll you prob want edgemasters and that’s a beast in its own. 4.5k gold on my server

Endgame: when you hit 52 you want to start working on your pre bis asap. Some noteable items include: Hand of justice, black hands breath, rune captain of the gaurd (quest), diamond flask (quest) and many more. I would start working on AV rep when you hit 51 because av provides us a nice one hand axe, epic shield/epic 2h and a discount mount. Your goal is to have 6% hit as an orc or 9% as another race. I would suggest during your dungeon crawling for pre bis spec into deep prot. It will be much easier to hold threat and your going to have stance mastery that plays a big part in utility for dungeons. Do not and I repeat do not go fury/prot until you are ATLEAST full pre-bis and even then it’s iffy.

When it comes to raids find a like minded raiding guild asap that fits your schedule. Tell them you would like to tank. When I joined my guild we already had 3-4 geared tanks for both raid groups. They let me OT and I was blessed with a lot of gear since our tanks were almost full bis.

Good luck on your endeavors!

Berserking for threat.

Wouldn’t Orc axes generate more consistent threat than Berserking?

I’d have to do the math, but I’m pretty sure daggers end up better.

No orc axe specialization just lowers your total hit needed from 6% to 9%. It does not directly effect dps or tps however it can indirectly increase your dps/tps/mit because you can swap more gear since you need less hit

It does a hell of a lot more than that because of the way hit tables are constructed and weapon skills effect when attacking from the front. It’s more that dagger skill is so easy to come by that the only one that truly matters is sword skill, because thunderfury is a sword.

ORC get the Axe skill, or roll Ally and get there weapon skill bonus.
weapon skill bonus is most important,
You will always get a DPS spot tanking spots are little harder to come by.
