Starlink Latency West Coast?

Does anyone have Starlink on the west coast and plays WoW? Starlink publishes that their latency is 29-36ms on the west coast, but I’m assuming that’s receiver to satellite to isp center and back to satellite back to receiver? Like comcast says 10ms during a speed test, which would be modem to isp to modem? I’m trying to figure out what type of latency would be made if I was in Alaska for 3months playing on LA datacenter realms with starlink? Also what if I was in SoCal with starlink, which might be something I do too, since RV parks down there usually have garbage internet and you can’t easily run your own cable to the RV park unless you are staying there a minimum of 3 months.

Like would it be 40ms like I currently have with cable near Seattle or would starlink be closer to 100ms? Latency is important because I don’t really wanna stream twitch if it’s 100ms+. I’m very sensitive latency and hate playing with 100ms. Also would streaming with starlink increase my latency even more?

Check out some actual RV forums. I haven’t heard great things about Starlink, and I have never had a good experience with satellite internet overall. I live in an RV and have read about Starlink a fair bit, and I’ve seen mixed reviews at best. I definitely wouldnt go off of what Starlink says themselves.

Okay thank you. Yea, maybe you can easily sign up for cable for just 1-2 months at an RV park and cancel if you don’t tell the cable company that’s what your plan is. I don’t know?

Starlink =/= traditional satellite internet.

I have Starlink and it’s amazing but I’m not on the west coast (Ohio.)

I took this picture on my character Coilette-MoonGuard

I picked one of the big servers (Tich) and made a throw-away character:

What’s your latency like on Tich, MG, Proudmoore etc(LA datacenter)? Chicago is pretty close to Ohio, what is your latency on Chicago datacenter(sargeras, kt, etc)?

Do you stream/upload and if so does it affect your latency?

Imagine believing anything stated by an Elmo company.

Imagine believing someone that doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Edit: Btw it’s raining in Ohio today.

This appears to be to their datacenter. What type of latency do you get in game on a west coast realm in WoW? What about an east coast realm?

Thanks

I don’t know what you mean.

That speed test was from my internet, at my home. I blackened out my IP address of course.

This dude plays WoW all over the US in different places in his van-house:

He uses Starlink now and doesn’t seem to ever have any issues with it.

Imagine sitting at home on a gaming forum thinking you’re cool to bash one of the most successful and wealthy men in the entire world while he’s living the luxury life without ever caring or knowing who you are or your opinions.

You do you though.

Wait, are you asking for the box that pops up when you mouse over the red question mark in game? I’m at work and my husband sent me that speed test. He doesn’t play WoW so it’ll be a couple of hours before I can post a picture of that.

Considering ordinary wifi always has packet loss issues, I would never expect satellite internet to be worth it. Nothing is instant and with more distance and relays, you’ll always have higher ping and packet loss.

Yes this, depending on the server you are on it will vary.

I’m on Moon Guard. When I get home I’ll log on one of my Alliance alts and go stand in Goldshire. Nobody is allowed to make fun of me. This is for science and pissing people off that hate Elon for whatever reason.

California here with starlink. i get between 40-60 ping most days. occasionally though i will get a hickup but compared to what i had before with att its a godsend.

Some AU players were using starlink, so I think it might be better if you live in AU/BR but yea, only considering it as a last resort for rated PvP. I’m very sensitive to latency personally. I was in California for 3 months and had 8ms and it was night and day compared to having 40ms. It felt like a big advantage in PvP. The same is true for 40ms vs 100ms, the difference for me as a player is pretty staggering especially when my APM is 300+, not sure the exact APM because I don’t have the WA but it’s high.

It’s easy to harbor hatred for one of the most successful and wealthy men in the entire world when you’re just some average joe with an average job and a small front yard.

Yeah I guess. All I know is he’s the only one that will give me good internet living in the middle of nowhere Ohio.

I don’t like Elon, but let’s not turn this into a politic discussion. I don’t see a big deal with rolling on moonguard, all my mage names are taken on tichondrius/proudmoore and the only last large PvP west coast server is moonguard.
