Remembering one of the best MMO’s that was there, way back in the day…
Expansions came and changes came and went…
Then one day, it all changed us, who played it, forever…
Why is it that some Developers make changes so vast… so “out there”… that make players shake their heads in amazement, disgust… making us move along to something different?
That’s why I came from Asheron’s Call, to Starwars Galaxies, then finally to the World of Warcraft, all those years back.
I think the Developers here do listen and feel to what the players want/need, but I hope so much that they listen and see to what destroyed some of the great MMO’s of the past…
I like what I’m seeing in the expansions of WoW, but there is always a part of me that cringes a bit, when a new expansion comes along… ( crossing fingers and hoping for the best )…

WoW definitely has evolved a lot over the years but I like that about it. Classic is fun for a dose of nostalgia but I much prefer the modernized experiance of retail and all the quality of life improvements it has to offer.

Agree! I loved being Imperial with Animal Handling and Pistoleer. Having 2 rancor’s and a AT-ST would demolish mobs, with the Pistoleer ability to keep the mobs knocked prone. Being able to solo Krayt dragons for the pears was amazing. I never did get the Jedi Holocron though. The revamp where everyone could be a Jedi was horrible.

I think that was the kick in the gut for me…
I did find the old man… I got the Holocron and was grinding up until the ‘expansion’… hoping to be Jedi…
Then we all logged in the next morning to find the game was completely changed… anyone … anyone could be Jedi at the press of a button… no grind, no work… sigh…
It was too much for me…
The Rage of the Wookies expansion was amazing though… the space battles were just op
Then friends were talking about the World of Warcraft… I went to WoW and never turned back…
Wonderful days… great memories !
RIP Starwars Galaxies !

People will crucify me for this, but the NGE was necessary to try to keep a dying game alive.
SWG died because people stopped playing it.
The NGE was amazing and had a lot of good content!
I think it was the shock of it becoming so… well, different from us players who were there from the beginning. Too many changes, too fast…
It was a game we thought would last a very long time…
In hindsight, I guess the population was falling off…
We cant blame the Developers… they did what they thought was best and they really did give it their best…
It does make you wonder though… did some of the developers who made some of the drastic changes to the game… did they even play the game to feel what the players experienced?
Hmmm…
Add LoTR Online and this was my journey as well!
Damn, AC, that takes me back.
P.S. I purchased the founders pack (lifetime access) to LoTR Online, should load it back up and see how that’s going. LOL
LOTRO is a surprisingly fun game.

So how’d that work out?
It is, I just can’t get past the dated animations though. I’m not a graphics snob in general, but I guess I have my limits.

I think even the developers admitted the NGE killed off the game. The game was dying, but the NGE smothered it instead of helping.
Was in the Combat Upgrade closed beta which ended up being infuriating because at the end it became apparent the NGE was being developed secretly in parallel and they were just going through the motions with us on the CU to hide the NGE.
The things I remember most about trying WoW, it all worked and I could get on boat and travel with it. SWG was so absurdly buggy. They’d fix something and next patch it would be unfixed on the test server. There would be thread after thread saying they unfixed it, and the unfix would still get pushed live.
But it died because they abandoned their core hard core open world audience and tried to chase WoW with a insanely inferior version of WoW.
NGE was the death of that game. Naritus for life.

SWG wasn’t the best. It was a mess by even the standards back then. It was just different and had a big nostaligia ribbon around it.
Starcraft had the potential to overtake Star Wars… but blizzard could never do it.
Hope that Microsoft do it.
A Starcraft MMO.
Prime or Netflix series about Starcraft with decent budget to compete with Star Wars.
Starcraft movies.
World of Warcraft is nice I love it but having your own ship to travel across the space, as a Terran or a Protoss…
That gives me chills.
Fun fact: SWG was built on the bones of what was supposed to be UO2. Which is where I started.
Gaming has changed a lot over the last measure of time. WoW has changed, evolved, matured. just as much as it’s changed and evolved the MMO.
I still game with my crew from SWG. Straight from our original guild, there is probably about 10 of us from SWG and then some others we’ve gathered over the years. While SWG was tremendous fun and I have amazing memories, it’d all, probably, not exist without that group of friends.
Some of them have kids now, and some of those kids game along with us on occasion. EVERY game I play is better because of them.
I was a BH in SWg from launch. never deviated.
BUT… i ended up using two accounts and my Bothan was the character made a Fencer/Hammer/Doc and would spend my saturday’s face smashing Night Sisters in my half set of composite armor (head, feet, chest, bracers)
Or TKM with s snow cap, red and green dress shirt and trench coat like a matrix dog.
honestly, I still compare games to it and just recently in Once Human I built my house to look like a Generic house from SWG (the one with the long hallway when you first walked in.
I STILL google “SWG2” every 8 months or so. heck. Ima do that right now for the fun of it.
Bro imagine we crossing each other in the space while flying and waving to each other.
But you’re Protoss and I’m Terran.
And we shoot each other.

pre-cu swg before jedis is still my favorite mmo of all time.
i dream of the day when a developer takes risks like they did though but that will never happen again. it’s all theme parks on rails now. blah.
it’s funny, i spent more time decorating houses/guild halls than fighting in that game lol.
good times.

agreed.
The holocron introduced an irreparable amount of damage to the game.

Was it that mmo where you had to find a way to be jedi and got ruined because they tried to copy wow ?
