Standout Characters of BfA

I know everyone on this section of the forums have their gripes with the story of current expansion, includimg myself, but i wanna take a bit of time to appreciate some of the brand new characters that were introduced or have been amazing this far in BfA.

Bwonsamdi, has easily been one of the most entertaining characters in WC history in this expansion alone. His voice actor, Alex Desert, has done an stellar job balancing both the charisma and dark humor both constantly being displayed by the character. Characterwise, what else can you say? He’s a near semi-omnipotent death god constantly cracking jokes at the expense of you and your allies (like when you get killed in Zandalar) while there is nothing you can do about it. He’s hands-down the best thing about the Horde story right now. There’s so many good qualities about him that it’d take all night to put em’ here. I look forward to the day when they bring back Vol’jin and reunite WC’s original bromance.

Flyn Fairwind, pretty similar to Bwonsamdi has been one of the most enjoyable characters in the Alliance story. With his imense charm and charisma, he’s constantly getting himself into trouble and never takes said trouble very seriously. You just can’t help but admire the life he brings to the scene everytime he’s present. I really wish more humans were like him and khadgar and not just ridgid faith worshippers, but actually feel like real people put in these crazy situations. (Meme or not, Khadgar was incredibly casual and relatable for a guy with incredible magic powers)

King Rastakhan, is pretty much as great as i hoped he would be. Dominates the scene every time he’s in it. Is shown to be physically dominating as well as politically. Takes no BS from invaders or traitors. Great personality and is a repectable leader of his people. Is a sympathetic and likeable character. And finally:

”BWONNNNSAMMMMMDIIIIIIIIIII!!!

But seriously, they work so well off eachother. We have this serious, mighty, proud, king who has ruled for over two centuries with the help of a serious, stoic, loa only for that loa to suddenly get killed off and force him to bargain with a loa that’s the complete opposite of that and he needs to get along with him, because that’s really the only option he has that can compare favorably to his previous loa. Too bad he dies later this patch tho to be replaced by his boring daughter , hopefully we see more of him beyond the grave or even returning from death at some point.

Honorable mention goes to Raal&Loti, if they had more actual screentime, they would have easily made the list. They’re constant bickering about who’s loa is better was so entertaining even after Raal was being tortured and was about to die, they still go right back into it about who’s loa is better. But other than that one questline they really only pop up here and there as floating heads to narrarate a few world quests in Dazar’alor.

Also im going to add Cyrus Crestfall for similar reasons as the former. If he had more screentime, he’d be amazing. He just has a really great voice imo and an epic old man vibe.

Who are your MVP’s of the expansion, so far and why?

Lucille Waycrest. From the time you first meet her, as she’s about to be executed for witchcraft, through to the revelation of her tragic romance, she’s a likeable and competent character without being overpowered.

Warren Ashton, pyromaniac alchemist. Not a major character, but a fun and memorable one. Honorable mention for him, I guess.

Bwonsamdi is fantastic and steals every scene he’s in. I loved Rastakhan to death, more literally than I’d have liked; much like Kael’thas to Lor’themar, it seems his fate was to die and be replaced by a less impressive, less developed successor in the Horde. I like Talanji well enough, but what she achieves is not as impactful or intriguing as the arc Rastakhan enjoyed. He was the real main character of the Zandalari content.

I also really liked Zul for the twenty minutes we actually quested with and got to know the guy. You know, before he devolved into a shallow old god cultist. What a waste.

I’ll second Lucy.

I was impressed by her poise, intelligence and bravery.

I also appreciated the humor in her quests to prove she wasn’t a witch.

I preface this by wholeheartedly agreeing with Pyro and Sylla on all points.

Sam from the Stormsingers arc in Stormsong. For how short a time he’s with you and Daelia? I actually felt gutted by his fall.

Are you trying to tell me you don’t like Previously Unheard-of Young Protagonist, beloved by all, kind and compassionate, who just “totally gets it” while the older people with more experience are somehow ignorant?

Now that I think about it, Talanji is basically Jaina as of WC3. Older leaders (Terenas, Antonidas, etc) don’t listen when Medivh says “hey bad stuff’s coming”. Jaina listens, sails across the sea, helps the new Horde and the night elves save the world from demons and zombies. Woo. For Talanji, the older leader doesn’t listen to the rumblings of bad things from lower castes because he somehow lacks the wisdom to consider betrayal from his inner circle. She then goes to Nazmir and spearheads the effort to stop the Blood Trolls from swarming Zuldazar and to kill G’huun. Also, she, like WC3 Jaina, is incredibly powerful for her age, and is extremely compassionate for innocents and people who would be considered “beneath her” in their society.

In addition, now she also has a dead dad! Maybe they can have a Batman vs. Superman moment where they bond over having dead fathers and then stop fighting so they can team up against Doomsday Azshara.

Talanji is just Troll Jaina.

EDIT: In some attempt to stay on topic, I’d say I rather enjoy the whole band of Inquisitors you induct into the Order of Embers. They’re all distinct and archetypal. You’ve got the leader, the hothead fighter, the gruff muscle, the scout/archer, and the… uh… guy with an animal friend. Say hi, Winston!

Wouldn’t be the first time Blizzard has tried swapping characters and their arcs across factions to hopefully duplicate the same result the original had. Unfortunately, I believe she’s tainted by association with BfA.

Thomas Zelling.

I just… really like his arc. I like the somber tone he has towards undeath. Like, he chose it, but even then, it’s still not easy to live by yet he’ll still stand by the choice. He reminds me more of early, vanilla era undead, where most were just kinda dudes living their unlife because war wasn’t their dominate story.

I also liked how reluctant he was to fight Kul Tirans. At first, all the guys he fights were the traitor Stormsong house members, then was the corrupt fleet members. It wasn’t until this patch he’s finally started fighting Kul Tirans, so I like the slower growth into accepting he’s Forsaken, instead of instantly fighting his former allies (coughSiraDelaryncough)

Though I do wonder about his class. Tidesages are shamans, no? They speak to the elements. And Zelling hates the void using ‘evil tidesages’ for abusing the elements. So is Zelling just an undead shaman?

Regardless, I hope Zelling sticks around. The Forsaken need more down to earth characters like Zelling, and less evil ones.

Keeshan for the memes. Guys a chad.

As for actual characters Bwonsamdi is a given. Cheeky bugger that one. Also Falstad has stuck out to me this xpac. Guy seems like hes having a blast. Flying around throwing storm hammers. Bodied Nathanos too so that’s a plus.

Loti and Raal. I really like their back and forth. It’s like Maiev and Illidan’s aggravated sexual tension in Cathedral of Eternal Night, minus all the sexual tension. A small and trashy part of me is hoping the Zandalari recruitment scenario is repairing their marriage.

Basically all of the Order of Embers, mainly Lucille. I’ve always adored wicker themed games like The Witcher and Dishonored, and Drustvar does the whole witch hunter thing perfectly. Waycrest Manor is the only dungeon I’ll do for fun, just because I love the inquisitors’ banter so much. Feel like they’d get along great with the Silver Hand.

Lastly, Collector Kojo. I love matching games.

flynn, lucille and brother pike has to be my favorites.

You know what I liked about Lucille? She wasn’t a fighter. She didn’t have any great feats, show off any magic, or take on some monster. In fact she stayed out of our way when in combat and never tried to prove herself or anything and it backfiring.

In a world full of characters who can fight or are beasts on the battlefield, it was actually nice to follow someone around that didn’t fight, but had other strengths.

I like Pike, there’s something warm about him that makes him friendly.

…You know, this thread made me realize that when casually playing through, the only character that had me going “hey, they’re pretty cool” was Lord Norwington.

Wow.

Norwington was cool. I’m kinda hoping to see House Norwington take the place of House Ashvane as one of the main four houses.

I feel like it makes sense. The horses he has even are a commodity that offers something to Kul Tiras.

To be fair, that dude is rad as hell.

I, too, really like Bwonsamdi. And Lucy, even though I resent refounding an order and for SOME REASON have to still grind rep for it. And Flynn is the kind of goof I always like.

Unlike other people in this thread, apparently, I also really like Talanji.

Grumbol Grimhammer, the dwarf quest giver in the Alliance incursions is fantastic. I hope they keep using him. We need more Bronzebeard characters that aren’t Brann or Muradin. He’s funny, bloodthirsty, and has an amazing voice.

Everyone here has already said it but Lucille is a great character.

Marshal Everit Reade was also one of my favorite characters of this expansion. He and Lucille played off each other really well. his replacement isn’t nearly as good as him.

I liked Reade too, and was honestly sad about what happened to him. I don’t mind his replacement but there’s not as much chemistry with Lucille there, yeah.

Definitely Lucille. As a pagan the Drustvar story always gives me a lot of questions and she tempers a lot of what was going on. As awful as her tests were I liked that she went out of her way to not just do the tests but point out “Here are tests that don’t involve killing the innocent”

I think she is fascinating and My biggest wtf moment was in the wedding flashback.

I’m North Irish and I consider the way I talk representative of such.

When I got to the wedding I said “What the hell IS this freaky s£#@?” It was a brilliant scenario and really unsettling.

And apparently Bwonsamdi also is lead singer in a reggae band called the Hepcats.

Love Bwonsamdi.
