Standalone Arena game

Just curious how many pvpers out there would be interested in a standalone arena version of wow? I would definitely subscribe to something that allowed you to create a max level character of any class and customize it with any armor, enchants, covenants, etc. and swap to any other class/setup at will. It could also include a ranked soloqueue ladder which ranks your account regardless of what setup you play. I mean I highly doubt we will ever see anything like this but I would much rather play a game like that than be forced to grind exp, rep, maw, torghast, honor, conquest, etc. Would be awesome to just try out any build you wanted at any time and just pvp.

I imagine there are a large number of people who are no longer subscribed to wow who would come back for something like this.

Yep I would enjoy this since I mostly just do 2s

I would absolutely play something like this!

Unfortunately they wouldn’t ever do something that would potentially hurt retail subs.

It could potentially be a standalone add-on to retail, so one sub covers both games, like with classic.

a year-round tournament realm (or some gw2-like system where a fresh char can go to a zone which scales you up to full power from which to queue pvp) is half of what i want. the return of deep freeze is the other half

power progression is incompatible with competitive play, and gear imbalance is uninteresting to be on either side of

im not excited to pOwEr Up my character; i want the chores to be over so i can play the game

What about Classic and TBC Classic? If it’s just the same principle in which you need to maintain your retail sub to play it…

That is possible like the old tournament realms they had but I still see the shareholders being concerned that the main game metrics would drop.

We have to remember that wow was a pve game primarily and pvp was only bg’s initially. That was the wow vision and why they still focus on pve content primarily.

Retail and classic subs fall under the same category, correct.

I have a different view point coming from a business perspective is all.

They could get so creative with it. One example would be you could have “hero templates” which would be pre-selected carbon copy loadouts from rank one and tournament winners of the previous season. Of course you could modify your Loadout however you wanted.

1000000% would be awesome. Most of this game is a complete waste of time. Just let me PvP and have us all on equal footing. Skill vs Skill.

I’ve been saying this for months. Toss a ladder for rating and solo que. it would be the best revamp to pvp this game has ever seen.

I think it should not be underestimated, the potential participation that could get from something like this. There would be nothing else like it on the market and their current PVP participation metrics are not an accurate representation of how popular a standalone game like this could be simply because a huge portion of this potential Market is currently excluded due to all the grinding which they are not interested in and/or do not have the time for.

Isn’t this the basis for a lot of pservers

I have no interest in this, I play WoW arena because it gives me an MMO-RPG PVP experience. I would just play a moba or fps if I wanted “loadout” gameplay.

While you’re entitled to your opinion, I feel that you lack vision and are a troll. Thank you and good day sir.

There is nothing “RPG” about today’s arena. You click the q button, you get instantly ported into the arena. You die, you port right back out at the same place you were like nothing happened. Nothing Role-playing about it. My advice would be for you to stay in classic and go back to Goldshire for your MMO role-playing experience. Not the PVP arena forums.

Care to elaborate?

Seems odd that you say:

but then immediately discredit mine for reasons.

Yeah, if we completely ignore the fact that we have to gear our characters, an integral part to any RPG, and we have to make meaningful decisions like talents, stats, covenants, etc.
