Stabled a pet, it still shows up

Haven’t played WoW in a few years, and I’m not sure if this problem is something I’ve forgotten, or if it’s new one:

I stabled a pet I didn’t want to use, mostly to free up a slot so I can tame something else, but when I call my Prime, the other pet shows up as well. I’ve never noticed this before.

Another thing I’m confused about, is if I tame a secondary pet, it somehow gets slotted in “Call pet”, but shouldn’t it be slotted in the “Call pet 2” power? Shouldn’t my “Call pet” power just summon my prime, and not the second one?

I just tested this on my lvl 20 hunter in Elwynn. I had the starter pet for a Panderan as my prime. I tamed Princess, but the boar got slotted as my Prime, making my pets ‘cunning’ instead of ‘tank’, which should be my default pet role given as how my turtle is my prime.

Am I missing something? Appreciate any help.

Do you have animal companion talented?

The secondary pet is the first pet slot in your stable.

You won’t use “Call pet 2”. Call Pet becomes a pull out menu where you select the pet you want when you have no pet summoned.

I do have Animal Companion selected. I don’t know if this is some weird bug, or what?

Animal Companion calls out the first pet in your stable. In order to change the pet, you have to put a different pet in the first stable slot.

For call pet, you just pull out the menu and select which pet you want to bring out. Call pet 2 is just another slot you have for carrying pets on your person so you can
Swap between them after using dismiss pet to dismiss the one you have out.
