SS DPS 2v2 Suggestion

I really like SS in theory, as I don’t know anyone irl that plays WoW anymore. However, as we all know it hasn’t played out how we would have liked it. Of the many issues with the current SS is the DPS queue times. In the next expansion we know that there will be Rated SS Battlegrounds, which is looking to be fun but also will result in this same issue.

I say that because since first being implemented several patches ago, the Battleground Blitz “test” format has resulted in lengthy queue times for DPS (compared to healers) and I highly suspect that when this game format is live for Rating, this will be exacerbated.

To that end, I would love a 2v2 DPS Only SS option in the game. Will it be balanced? No. Is 2v2 balanced now? No. But it would give DPS players something to do with very short queue times. In my head (a scary place to be, fyi) it would be setup as follows:

  1. There would be 3 Rounds of play (each player plays with the other one time)
  2. Only DPS could queue for this role (no healer or tank specs)
  3. There would be no duplicate specs in one lobby (similar to how current SS is setup)

I can appreciate there is a lot in development now and asking for another Rated PvP option may seem like a lot, but since we currently have SS for 3v3 and SS for Battlegrounds (the Blitz system), adapting a SS format for 2v2 for DPS only would not be a massive undertaking (at least to my understanding of the game, but I am not a programmer so I could be mistaken).

What do others think of this? Again, I’m not saying this would be more or less balanced than current SS but it would at least have low queue times for DPS and let us play the game, which is what we all want to do at the end of the day.

This is an advantage for OP specs. They’re more likely to face weaker specs.

I think the main problem as you pointed out is that PvP is not balanced around 2s.

Some DPS specs are extremely strong in 2s when there are no healers. They’d take over a 2s RSS bracket.

Meanwhile, the DPS specs weak in 2s when there are no healers would be driven away from the bracket. They’d probably be pretty upset about the entire situation.

So, Blizzard would need to decide if they’re ok with releasing a rated bracket that’s definitely imbalanced and unfair for a bunch of DPS specs.

Blizzard will never create a bracket that ostracizes healers or tanks. It will not happen.

Really bad idea.

Are you ready to go into a rated game mode as a warlock paired with a feral and instantly get got by a DH and rogue?

Im ready to face 2 DHS and a sub rogue everyday in x3 SS
at least the suffering in x2 will b quicker

ROFL… That’s a NAY

I don’t mind a 2s ss but there’s no reason to not allow healers… and as much as I hate tanks in PvP them either

I think the idea is good, just need to give a 2v2 rating and 3v3 rating and have options to opt out of the modes you dont want to play, then everyone is happily playing.

As some have stated here, a few without any constructive feedback, they are not in favor of this idea for various reasons. I find them all valid. Some specs are more powerful in 2v2 while some shine in 3v3. I didn’t mean to suggest removing any existing game modes, but rather adding another one.

I see too many DH/Rogue in SS now as is, and I have to wait 40min+ to get in there. As a Hunter here commented, at least the queues will be quick which is the goal of my suggestion. Queue up for 3v3 SS but also 2v2: allows DPS to do something while waiting for the long 3v3 queues.

A commenter said that healers should be allowed in a SS 2v2 bracket. That would directly take away from the goal of this suggestion: quicker queue times for DPS. Players that chose to queue for 2v2 may not queue for 3v3 SS. This would result in many more games in both brackets, because there wouldn’t be as many people in queue for just 3v3.

At the end of the day I suppose this conversation is moot, but I really don’t see this playstyle being an option as hurting other rated modes, at least not in how I play the game which is of course all I know.

You can still play whatever bracket you want, but if you want to do a 2v2 SS (again w/3 rounds) you would be both with and against any OP specs for that bracket, which a poster here brought up as a negative.
