I’m finding it very hard to stay alive in PVP. I’ve read the guides, chose talents that work for me / are recommended. Ilvl is 450 and I have 32% Vers in Arena. Could someone please have a look at my gear and setup and let me know if I’m doing something wrong?
Stack that mastery buddy! Haste is second most important. Crit does next to nothing. Gem for mastery. Mastery gives you phat aimed shots/rapid fires while giving you crazy range.
*Always be sure to be 30% vers though
Little tip in triple melee lobbies too. Don’t be afraid to diamond ice trap the dps that isn’t the kill target on their offensive CDs. WW serenity for example will eat you alive. Trap that shiz.
Thanks for getting back to me Roryn! Per Icy Veins, I’m prioritizing Mastery then Haste after I get Vers above 30%. Sadly, I’m still getting whomped. Any other tips?
What are you losing to? We talking rss?
Just about everything. I get focused on in 2v2, I go down burning everything I have in about 10 - 15 seconds. When I base sit in RBGs I always lose in 1v1. I’ve read the guides, I’ve made macros, I’ve changed my build, I don’t know what it is.
Hmm. Have you watched somebody else play? Like, Jellybeans? I think that spacing/kiting and stuff is something that’s a little easier to observe than read about because it can be a little abstract.
I have not. Personally, I was hoping to get a MM Hunter to take notice and look over my character. I’ll have to look Jellybeans up.
Quick look off phone - You have crit and haste gear, no belt buckle, helm extra benefit is no benefit to rated PvP. Besides that, are you using roar of sacrifice, feign death talent, your wall? Hard to tell just looking.
Hmm, I’ll have to take a second look. Thanks!
I’ll replace the haste and crit gear. I’m using FD pvp talent. I’m not sure what my wall / roar of sacrifice is.
Just lots of practice.
What are you playing with in 2s? Holy, Resto, Pali all work well.
There are really two main ways to position yourself. Either you’re not the target and your positioned between the other healer and their dps, or they are targeting you and your healer is positioned between them… in a way. You’re either pulling the back or pushing in. You’re saving things like master’s call and disengage for times when they counter with like abilities. Like, you don’t want to disengage prior to a charge, You might use bursting shot or tar trap to make distance, then anticipate the charge, and disengage. In 2s, you should be able to make breathing room on just about any target.
Then, you’re using your pet stun and possibly chimareal shot to get traps. You’re using concusive shot to prevent the other healer from getting to your healer, and you’re using masters call quite often to allow your healer to get to their healer for more CC.
It’s lots of ebb and flo. Pulling the enemy back to force their healer to pull in to make it easier for you to CC and then you’re pushing out to get CC. Even using scatter on the dps target to get traps on the healer. Most of the time, you’re saving damage for your goes and between those goes you’re mitigating damage. While I haven’t played much MM, I’d assume your go is explosive > chakrams > rapid fire > arcane spam. Ideally you’re softening your target up prior to CC. Using tranq shot between goes to get off small buffs.
Then it’s making sure you’re using everything at the right time to counter what’s happening. Saving trinket for key moments. Saving turtle when your healer is in CC or big damage is about to happen (serenity, secret tech., etc.).
Again, more helpful if you provide a scenario you’re struggling with.
As far as BGs go, MM isn’t that great at sitting these days. You’re setting your pet on the flag with Move To. Like, literally putting your flag on the flag. As for you, you’re standing at max range to prevent sap/cap. You’re burning turtle VERY early to avoid damage and for help to come. You’re not going to 1v1 much. NOT that you can’t win some, but most decent rogues or ferals are going to eat you up.
So keep flare + pet on flag or flare on yourself. Always have your eyes on who is stealthed and who is in the team fight. If your count is off, assume they are pushing for you and call for a float. If they only have 8 people in the team fight, assume two are come for you and a float is ready. I’d drop a couple traps around your self as well. It’s on you to be VERY vocal of what’s going on. They can’t blame you if you called it early.
Looking more into talents. Lone wolf, no go. Need pet, for roar and masters call. If double melee, it’s going to be rough. I feel like I can’t do a damn thing.
What should I do about my helm and boots? Both are crafted and wrong secondary stat. Should I have them recrafted or purchase conquest gear?
I would recommend you start with BM… Learn all the things about positioning, when use your traps, how quit melee, memorize the timing of all your CDs, and get used to all your hotkeys. When you feel you doing everything well as BM but still, it seems the damage is not enough, is time to move to MM.
Just for someone that never played as Hunter, BM will be easier to understand the core of Hunter gameplay/mechanics in PvP, and it is the same for both specs: how to stay alive in a class that is made to die quickly
Recrafting with new missives is an option, yeah.
