SPY is against TOS. Why are people not getting banned?

I guess you didn’t get my original point then. If I’m hiding and waiting for people to come by so that I don’t pop up on logs or anything, spy is making that not possible cause you show up on it reguardless.

If you are not doing anything to cause entry in combat logs, you do not appear in spy.
If you think otherwise, look at spy’s code, cause you wont believe what anyone says until you look for yourself.

Something you are doing, or did, within log view of someone, is causing a log entry

The API is very limiting on what can and cant be done, and what info is and is not available, and our API now is more limiting than it actually was in vanilla, vanilla’s API was a bit lax and would kind of help you bot.

• If they do something to show up in a combat log
• If you target them
• If you mouse over them

Spy is pretty useful for knowing when there’s either 30 Horde nearby, or 200.

Makes it easier to plan out for either being outnumbered 5:1 or 20:1, the strategy changes significantly.

can you even fathom the amount of pissed off people breaking DBM, Threat meters, DPS meters, Combat text mods, etc would create?

Been done already when they removed DBM features. One example I know of is the Archimonde encounter in WoD. Still gone to this day.

Honestly the backlash from that was minimal and it barely affected usage

Have one of your enemy friends (that sounds funny…) dump log to disk
have them start 1 zone away from you, and have yourself a little over 200 yards from the zone entry.
Have friend do /combatlog, then enter the zone where you are, and dont mouse over you, stick mouse in the coner of the screen or something, in case they have an ability to see, like goggles etc.
After you pop on spy, do /combatlog again to stop logging to disk, and go analyze the log.

Here is what it looks like watching me, and anyone else in range as you can see.
This is not the addon, this is what i can see with no addon at all

You know, if this add-on communicates via a channel, and IF there’s no way to prevent that channel from being used by others, a clever programmer who’s willing to roll a “double agent” now has the ability to send a lot of amusing disinformation.

love watching rogues have meltdowns now that they’ve lost ONE of their multiple advantages. Please take more from rogues, this is like a holiday by itself, without the turkey or trees covered in garland.

While we are at it, let’s take away druids cat form stealth, hell let’s just remove the entire druid cat form. /s

Pretty sure this is because the first time your combat log becomes aware of another player, it has them “gain” whatever buffs they currently have applied.

So you could be standing behind a tree doing nothing, and it would tell them you “gained” PW:F (if you have it).

It automates gameplay in the same way a dps meter pulls from your combat log instead of you tracking all your damage on your own.

It automates gameplay in the sameway a quest tracker puts markers on your minimap.

It automates gameplay in the sameway Auctionmaster posts items at a market value price.

Are we going to ban people for those addons as well? Saying something “Automates gameplay” is meaningless all it does is give you more information to act upon in the same way the other addons do, it doesn’t press a button for you.

People definitely should not be banned, it just needs to be broken.

No reasonable person will agree that DPS meters and the Spy add-on have the same effect on the game. Or the auctioneer add-on. Or the quest tracker.

It’s like seeing through walls and adding radar in an fps.

Lol “all it does…” that list is nuts, unbelievably valuable game changing information.

And this add on is hardly the only way to detect a stealth happened near you.

If you can’t handle players trying to find a stealthed rogue you are just a bad rogue.

Are you on on a pvp server?

Do you have any idea what it’s like to have roving bands of alliance (3 or 4 : 1) scouring every nook and cranny because they were alerted to my presence by an add-on without ever actually seeing me? It’s ridiculous. I feel for alliance on most other realms.

Add perception to the mix and Paladin speed auras and it’s automatic death. No reasonable person can believe this add-on is okay on PvP servers.
