In all my years playing WoW I have never played a warlock or a priest so I figured one of them will do the trick.
Which class is better?
The warlock has the pet, on paper that sounds good for questing?
But the priest can heal for easy dungeon spots.
Are either superior in multi target damage for questing?
I already main an arcane mage for dps and a resto shaman for heals so I don’t particularly have much interest playing the class above lvl 70 for my potion making so performance in the raids doesn’t really factor in.
My first toon (my main) is a demo lock, been demo since I started. They nerfed the vw sac/fel dom trick a bit, but can still have vw aoe taunt and just DoT everything until you get your aoe’s. Hit 70 and seed everything down with metamorphosis/immolate aura on
Spec Affliction, stack spellpower, and grab an heirloom staff w/ +30sp enchant. Once you get Siphon Life talented, you can DoT everything up with Corruption and never die.
Warlock is easier to level, but both are pretty fun classes.
Priest has some pretty brutal mana issues early (prepare to wand) and I would suggest not going shadow till the 70s and you get aoe. Disc out damages shadow until mind sear range and is easier to get into a dungeon group (where even as Disc healer you WILL be top dps).
Warlock, pick any of the three specs and congratulations on the easiest 80 you ever had (makes hunter leveling look like brain surgery). Warlock has Portal which can be nice for listing and cancelling in the auction house.
If you are fixin to Herb/Alch, then you should level a drood.
IMO, locks are easier to level but I have a ton of fun on my SPriest/DPriest. I’ve had fun dps’ing, I’ve saved dungeons and even raids with last minute heals (not great heals as SPriest).
This is true. Once you get to a certain point around lvl 40-- you basically never die. I did this not too long ago in Nov. I made a fresh lock lvl 1 at the beginning of November and hit 80 about mid December. ( the 50% xp buff from 72-80 helped tremendously. It was like a level every 2-3 hours. Also had fast flying at 73)
What is it about priests that are so good in pvp? I saw a match where a priest was top dps, had 0 deaths, something like 400,000 damage done. Is it the shields?
For questing both are going to excel with just 2 dots and on to a new target.
Warlock (affl) will be better at this though since the 2 dots are both instant, you’ll have better self healing, you’ll have a pet, your buffs don’t require recast after 30 hits, you can lifetap.
Priest as you said will have easier dungeon spots when you swap to healing.
Shadow priest is a bit better against elite opponents.
For an alt where your goal is to do trades and quest- warlock.
Depends on your interest in healing I’d say. If you want to heal priest obviously is the choice, if you’re more of a dpser go warlock as they’re arguably the best class in wrath.
If you just want an alt to pick up herb/alchemy, what about Druid? I just got my Druid to Outland with herbalism and herbing in flight form is awesome. Don’t need to “dismount”.
I’ve played a priest and lock in classic, tbc, and now wrath.
Go priest. Go Smite.
Priest is a fantastic leveler as shadow but even better as Smite spec. Smite is a crit stacking spec, and erases mobs in 6 seconds flat in TBC/Wrath levels (Details! addon data) and still retains spirit tap so you never drink.
I had over 33% crit as Smite in wrath dungeons and pulled 1.3k to 1.5k dps on single target and even higher on big packs since you’ll have Holy Nova to AE. Shadow doesn’t have access to AE until 76 with Mind Sear. Smite makes for an exceptional healer in dungeons, too.
Raiding: you’ll love life as shadow. PVP: Smite in BGs is a healer that helps with a kill. I wouldn’t arena as smite. Professions: tailoring and ENG. snaring nets and rocket boots are OP.
In battlegrounds that’s just being a ranged DoT class. DoT classes pump out insane overall damage in BGs even if the damage isn’t always that impactful. Looks fantastic on the scoreboard, but can be hit or miss in terms of actually contributing to winning.
