Spriest Fun?

Hey all I was looking to try a different ranged toon. Are spriests pretty fun or would they feel to similiar to my lock? How are they in bgs? I know in pve they are decent. I am down to them or balance druid.

Thanks!

Boomies and Spriests are both the gods of BGs, basically pick which one you like better. in regards to other content, in both 3v3 and 2v2 Spriest does better, in m+ Boomy does better, and in Raid Spriest does much better.

And where would you say an elemental shaman would fit in?

And like people say is sp similar to afflock?

In bgs, they are good in a defined role - with a group that can peel and heal. If you leave that protection you are a sitting duck to melee. You aren’t mobile enough to run flags and you don’t have snares to slow anyone down. With help you can be an effective healer killer between silence scream horror and psyfiend (50% heal reduction).

You would have more autonomy as boomie to affect outcomes but with a good group a SP can be quite nasty.

Spriest is only similar in the fact that we have dots. The rotation is much faster paced, and we have actual AOE capabilities.

Warlocks lack aoe, have huge burst set up, and slow ramp up damage (priests also have ramp up, but not as much)

I have both. Played my warlock and geared him to 400ilvl, then dropped it for Spriest. Spriest is more fun and more viable than affliction.

Affliction is good in raids, and only raids. It can’t PvP, is a dumpster fire in mythic+, and is just really lacking as a spec.

Spriest is at least viable in everything, though it’s not the greatest in PvP, but it’s still perfectly viable. Unlike affliction

Shadow does a lot of damage, but it’s essentially a three button rotation in raids and lots and lots of mind sear spam in m+. Though it does have the insanity mini-game if you’re into that.

Not Spriest related, but Aff is terribly designed. The fact that we only have ONE strength and so many weaknesses needs to be changed, we are absolute rock bottom in both pvp and m+, but top tier in raid. I’d trade some raid viability to atleast be able to play the spec in m+ and not be forced to go Demo.

I completely agree. I miss legions design. It was op for sure, but even if the damage was subpar, I’d still very much enjoy the playstyle. It was fun.

Warlock has been my favorite class since I started in bc (was also my very first character) It’s very sad to see them in such a state in BFA

Affliction is set up for failure in any scenario that isn’t a long drawn out fight. Having a classes burst require 10 dots + darkglare/darksoul is just over the top rediculous.

Destro is just flat out boring. To me it feels like it needs another spell in the rotation. It’s just very unengaging to play imo

Demo is fun for the most part, but the numbers are meh. I don’t know where Blizzard got the idea that summoner warlocks are weaker than all others, but they need to stop thinking that way. Guldan I’d argue was a summoner, and he was powerful AF

Overall warlocks make me sad when I try to play mine. I just remember how fun they were and I get depressed and want to log off :frowning:

Shadow as it currently stands isn’t very fun. The core of the spec has always been a simple rotation that evolves into frantic whack-a-mole, even before Legion (Shadow Word: Death would cause said whack-a-mole by both doubling your resource generation and requiring you to hit it twice to put it on CD), and BfA’s version of it stops just short.

Between having no choices on how to spend your resource (not even an ST vs AoE choice), being an actual mindless three button rotation, and having Voidform’s insanity drain drastically heightened and it’s haste bonus cut in half from the Legion iteration, the spec barely starts to feel good to play at the tail end of your Voidform, at which point it goes back to slow and boring.

It also has no unique utility to speak of, at least nothing that the other Priest specs also have.

I’d wait until 9.0 to try out Shadow, since a while ago a Blizzard dev mentioned a full rework coming around that time (think Demonology coming from Legion into BfA).

I definitely have fun leveling one, so shadowy

As an Ex Warrior, Rogue, DK, and Hunter as of recent I wanted to play a caster with dots, Fire Mage came to mind but I already played that game in WoD.

I never played Priest and Shadow and its storyline is fun, I am enjoying it more now we have a way to survive some melee situations. I feel Devouring Plague is missing, or something to add to our kit, Voidform I feel is killing the class.

I don’t understand everyones problem with voidform? I just started playing a shadowpriest as another alt recently and it feels so much better than my afflock. Was Spriest so much better before this?

Yes, Shadow used to be a lot better in MoP.

Awesome mini-burst windows with Devouring Plague and Solace and Insanity, access to dark versions of Halo, Divine Star and Cascade, impactful and fun execute because of Shadow Word: Death being baseline and doubling your orb generation, Void Shift baseline and usable in PvE, Mind Spike as a neat option to quickly burst down low HP adds, great visuals with Shadow Ravens and glyph of Dark Archangel making DP give you wings, unique abilities such as Spectral Guise (a talent that left behind a clone of you and stealthed you for 6 seconds, on a 45 sec cooldown), etc…

The current problems with Voidform aren’t instantly apparent, but a look around these forums should give you a rundown of what the main issues with it are. It’s mainly gameplay/design issues, the theme and visuals of it etc. are great.

That said, Shadow’s current state is still miles more fun than Affliction. Warlocks got absolutely gutted by Legion and BfA, I wouldn’t recommend playing them.

You’re a year too late with that warning

Before I leveled this Priest I wanted to play my Warlock again, I was like ok I want to play Affliction with a Felgaurd. Then I saw you can’t have grimorie of demons or what ever its called anymore. I am so sick of the blue voidwalker at this point no way I could play that.

You say simple, i always stayed away from shadow as i heard it was super mega ultra complex to play

Might give it a try now !
