Just wondering what covenant you’re enjoying for shadow priest? I’m torn between venthyr and Necro, anyone have personal experience with both?
I am a big fan of Venthyr. Mindgames is very useful, powerful, and generally stays out of the way. Door of Shadows is great. I used the Necrolord stuff while leveling through the campaign, so my experience with it is pretty minimal, but I found Unholy Nova to be a bit awkward to use since it has a rather lengthy travel time. And in general seemed a fair amount less useful than Mindgames (which makes me think Mindgames might be nerfed at some point.) Fleshcraft didn’t seem bad, but nowhere near as likely to save you as Door of Shadows. If you care about the amount of work to keep the faction up, the Ember Court seems pretty low maintenance compared to the others, while Abomination crafting just seems fun.
I am a fan of night fae just for the great cooldoing on VF
Venthyr all the way.
The heal is pretty decent from it.
I only quest/torghast/pvp tho.
i love venthyr. is it the “best” choice? don’t know and don’t care!
Thanks for the input! I think I’m gonna try out venthyr, I love the aesthetic and mindgames looks like a fun ability!
I’m having trouble deciding if priest Mind Games or druid convoke is my favorite covenant spell so far. I’m absolutely in love with mind games. May not be the absolute best in all situations, but when you get good use out of it, it feels incredibly impactful.
I chose Venthyr for thematics for the specs I intended to play. The vampirism concept fit Shadow and the atonement for sins aspect fit Discipline really well.
Mechanically it’s really good too. It might not be the BEST some specific areas but it is widely useful in nearly every area of the game:
- Damage: It hits really hard and has a relatively short cool down. It one-shots many normal enemies in Torghast if you’re Disc/Holy and opens up another passive healing anima power (chance for Mindgames to be applied when hit).
- Utility: In a M+ or Raid it’s going to give you back 2% mana every 45s and 20 Insanity for Shadow is pretty decent for a single spell. That’s better than the Blood Elf racial.
- Healing: One thing people tend to overlook is that the ability’s effective healing is actually twice the listed value. For example if someone has 10k out of 20k HP and would have taken 5k damage they end up at 15k instead of 5k so the effective healing is 10k.
- PvP: Just straight up kill an enemy who is about to heal himself or force them to heal you.
So if you like to play multiple specs, do a variety of content, or just care about thematics you can’t go wrong with Venthyr.
I went Venthyr on mine. It was also the only one that felt…right to me.
Venthyr and it’s not even close
I went Necrolord. Already had my enh shaman in venthyr and my Druid with the faes.
Not sad about my choice. The shield is good especially in torghast. Unholy nova synergies well with our mastery. The esthetic is also very fun.
If you looking for performance Necro is BIS for most content except torghast where Faes is BIS.
Wanted to be Kyrian during alpha/beta for lore / aesthetics / overall theme. Went with Venthyr for utility. Switched to Kyrian and enjoying it much more.
Boon is very powerful if used right. More than I thought it would be.
I was adamant on not going venthyr on any character, the vampire bitey boys did not appeal to me whatsoever. Now my priest and shaman are both vampire bitey boy groupies and its my favorite covenant.
tbh i kinda wana go necrolord but mindgames is too good, plus that -25% duration on roots, snares, and interrupts.
While I recognize venthyr is considered the best for shadow, I think I’ll be choosing Necrolord. My warrior is already venthyr and I’d prefer not to double up yet.
I’m still leveling though so I haven’t tried mind games. Maybe I’ll be swayed. Unholy nova felt really good though.
