[Spoilers!] Talanji in the New Book

This thread contains spoilers. It’s in the title. If you don’t like spoilers, do not click this thread. Don’t do the mouseover thingie. Go away. If you come into this thread to complain about spoilers you shall forever be known as “Talanji’s left shoulder’s wart”.

Ok so if you didn’t read the thingie of the new Book coming soon, Talanji is super cold towards the Horde, even towards Zekhan (AKA Zappyboi) of the Darkspear.

Even though she spent the whole expansion Fan-Girling about the Horde as a whole and the Darkspear Tribe in particular, saying she has admired them since she was a child because Vol’jin told the Prophet Zul to go kiss a raptor in Cataclysm.

Feels out of character to me.

I get it that maybe she blames the Horde a bit for the Zandalari attack that killed her dad. But without the Horde her dad would also have died, along with herself and everyone she’s ever met lol

I mean, there would be no Zandalar or Zandalari without the Horde. The Horde went there and ROFLstomped all the threats that the Zandalari either failed to deal with or failed to perceive at all. Mythrax, the Blood Trolls, Synthetic Old God G’huun, the Prophet Zul himself.

Besides, her dad literally sold her soul to Bwonsamdi!

Keeping in mind that we only got a tiny little piece of the book available to read, I’ll reserve my final judgment to when I can read the rest of the book.

But for now, it seems to me that she was acting out of character, compared to her in-game self. Talanji always admired the Horde, she was always grateful towards the Horde and she always respected the Horde.

She should be. Her association with the Horde caused the Alliance to storm her capital, execute her father, and decimate the Golden Fleet.

I’m sure she’s feeling the buyer’s remorse…

As I said, if she hadn’t associated with the Horde, Mythrax, G’huun, the Blood Trolls, Zul and friends would have destroyed all of Zandalar and all of the Zandalari.

She got off easy. A few people died. Plus her dad who sold her soul to their Death God. That’s all sad, of course, but nothing compared to what G’huun had in store for them.

Do they answer what happened with the giant sword killing the planet in the book or is that memory holed?

Not yet.

Maybe they won’t at all.

I would guess killing Azeroth’s largest parasite gave her the strength to heal herself and the sword is now just a monument to the tragedy lol

She joined/formed an alliance with the Horde after all of that.

I think in a sense her acting out of emotion is kind of cool to see. I think anyone who lost a family member may not always see the big rational picture. To her she wants revenge and maybe she kind of has a bunch of mixed emotions inside of her about choosing to ally with the Horde.

It reminds me of that line from Iron Man in Captain America Civil War … “I don’t care, he killed my mom”.

Maybe she is having doubts if she made the right decision? There could be lots of reasons for her acting cold toward the Horde. She could partially blame them… or maybe she feels after the whole thing with Sylvanas that the Horde is unpredictable and possibly a bad choice for an ally in the long run?

The author of that book plays a Night Elf Druid in game, just bare that in mind.

You’re telling me they’re writing people out of character, color me surprised!

But seriously shes been super bland up until now so I wouldn’t hate a bit of a character change but this seems kind of silly especially because she absolutely must be aware of what would have happened without the hordes help because shes been there pretty much every step of the way

It sounds like the writer is just trying to make her character more interesting for the book, regardless of whether or not it contradicts her character in the game.

But then there was that push Zekhan got, which caused him to fall into the servant carrying the goblet of poison.

Who pushed him? Bwonsamdi? Someone else?

  • When there’s spirits around, it can cause stressed emotions. Maybe that’s why Talanji was so aggravated?

I keep saying her name as “falanji”. Reminds me of Phoebe.

Sure we “saved” her people, but we also brought hell with us when we did. Her dad’s dead, fleet’s destroyed, naga still assaulting her shore’s, she’s tied to bwonsamdi, and she has an assassination plot against her. So her being a bit peeved is understandable.

I mean her dad made a deal with death. Also he died like patches ago, why now why not then, timing seems weird. Where’s the anger at the Alliance or bwonsamdi. Instead she just throws a fit at her only allies who could help her realistically get revenge

Lets be honest of Rasta was the one still in charge in this scenario he would have brushed that assassination off and been like sup y’all

Rastakhan is said to have lived longer than he should have, so he has experience where Talanji doesn’t. Bwonsamdi was her old man’s deal not hers and she’s the one who has to deal with him now. Her being stressed about it is natural, on top of the new issues such as the Alliance and the Hordes civil war.

I agree with her being stressed just seems strange to go after your only ally when so much is on her plate. I mean surely she must have been trained to rule in some capacity. Doesnt seem like she has her people’s best interest in mind just making more enemies.

Maybe more of the book will flesh this out but I’m a little skeptical

She always came off very Baine-like so I thought it was a strange turn

Also was anyone else thrown off when she was drinking wine?

The Horde in Cata was a different Horde than the one she got in BfA. Kinda like thinking you are going to see David Lee Roth Van Halen but getting Sammy Hagar Van Halen. Or thinking you are getting chocolate chips but they are just raisins.

1: I did not know a new book was coming.

2: It does seem a bit out of character, especially considering how much she fawns over the Horde even after pasta man dies.

3: At the same time, it makes sense. The Horde was effectively neutered in BFA.

“Faction pride expansion”, pah!

Is Sylvanas trying to take over his job? Hmm…

Heck, without the horde she’d still be stuck in the stockades with Zul. I’m guessing that either there’s extenuating circumstances that we find out later, or the author just didn’t know how to write her.
