[Spoilers] shadowlands story apparently never happened

Once again thrall has lost his mojo and this time he now he seeks help from tall robot dwarves to talk to the elements again.

If I had to guess metzen knows half the playerbase didn’t even know thralls talk with his mom got his grove back, so he wants to do his own version of it that is harder to ignore then the ghost mom talk.

Also fun fact if we count wod as a point where thrall was without his shamen powers then trall has been trying to get his grove back for half of the game’s lifespan at this point if he doesn’t get his powers back by midnight then will officially be depowerd longer then he has had his shaman powers in wow.

I think it is one of those story telling issues about characters with super powers. Kind of like Malfurion always is taking a nap, or recovering from a wound, or being traded to the death lands for a little while. They have these characters with immense powers, and that doesn’t always make for good story telling for our characters.

Jaina seems to be the only Character that blasts every thing to hell with unrelenting power, and gets stronger every time. Though she is “suppressed” in her abilities in certain zones, like Nazjatar by Azshara and the Maw by the Jailer.

but…but Anduin’s trauma from Shadowlands is a major plot point…?

Clearly Shadowlands still happens. However this does mean Thrall did not fully resolve his shamanism issues. And because I don’t want to check, does anyone know if Thrall was using his shaman powers when he was helping quest with his mom?

I’m not sure.

However an explanation is that while his talk with his mom helped him see Garrosh’s actions were his own, it didn’t completely erase the guilt he feels or there is another factor at play. Perhaps the elements are salty with him for one reason or another or an outside force is actively preventing them from connecting. Like how an outside force helped ensure Vol’jin’s death on the Broken Shore.

My coping reaction to this is that they realized they did F all with Baine and Thrall in DF and are giving him a proper arc where he can let loose at the end.

He was making stone bridges during the sylvanas fight and was unleashing massive chain lightnings in torgast. During the heritage quest he seemed perfectly at peace with himself and his place in life.

This is a combo of blizzard only having two stories to tell with orcs and metzen writing ANOTHER mid life crisis onto his oc.

I know the horde roaster is already critically low on characters that actually matter but if thrall can be killed off to spare the general public from the same story they have been telling for 10 years then I’m down for it

I know, I know!! The forums, my friends even in the game there seems no escape from it…
It’s so disappointing, specially now that Thrall is having issues with this “connection” again…
I guess the only thing affecting Jaina and making her God-tier Magic useless would be an Anti/Null/Dead-Magic Curse/Zone…stuff but I’m sure she is also like Xena the Warrior Princes… she will go all Xena Amazonian like: LaLaLALALALALA~! And beat everything with hidden frost martial arts! :joy:

“Oh boy can’t wait to help Thrall again to make up his mind, but no worry good old mama Jaina is there to carry us all to victory! Don’t worry Mama Jaina I have some spare grey quality Axes Thrall can use until he decide if he wants to be friends with the Elements or not” :grimacing: :+1: (Joking and teasing myself)
One thing for sure this is going to feel very awkward for Horde fans…

I’m just going to start blocking this stuff from my gameplay when it comes out, even if I miss story bits… clearly I know this is what Blizz story telling wants me to think: “Deal with it, you big Horde baby!” (I’m just teasing myself at this point since apparently being a Horde seems more of a meme than a real faction in the story to me!)

What no? Anduin just had a really scary dream and is super sad about it. Shadowlands never happened silly.

To be fair, it always seemed a bit… odd, that the elements could even answer Thrall’s call in the Shadowlands to begin with. It’s not exactly their plane of existence. Everything there is literally made from anima.

If they were to explain his abilities in the Shadowlands as him having drawn on anima to replicate the powers of Shamanism, then it would explain why the elements aren’t heeding his call on Azeroth: he never reconnected to them at all, only to himself, which allowed him to wield anima in a plane comprised of it in a way similar to shamanism.

It’s a stretch, but it’d be far from the worst explanation for something we’ve had in WoW.

That said, please, let this be the last time Thrall gets his mojo back.

On the plus side, maybe this could be a good thing, a development for shamans in a unique way. Most of their lore involves the elements, but we know Spirit and Decay are a part of it as well. I think it’d be intriguing if Thrall found a balance in a higher form of shamanism from his time in the Shadowlands, one he could potentially pass on to new generations of shamans.

Also I feel like some of you aren’t understanding the title is meant to be “Thralls shadowlands story apparently never happened” and not shadowlands itself.
At this point I wouldn’t put it past blizzard to just retcon thralls involvement in chronicles.

Sylvanas? Yeah, it was anticlimatic that the factions spent all that time hunting for her just for her to get zero-diffed by Bolvar. Weird, that.

Hmm, interesting. I wonder what part of TWW questing that’s in reference to. I saw Nobbel play through some questing involving the storm rooks and Thrall, and Thrall was completely fine; in fact, he was mentoring an Earthen character who needed a confidence boost while attempting some elemental stuff.

Why do titan constructs know how to talk to the elements? They’re the ones who imprisoned the elements on the elemental planes. Like what? The elements and titan constructs are enemies. Did Blizzard forget that?

The Elemental Lords =/= The Elements.

They didn’t just imprison the elemental lords.

Technically the elementals of old Kalimdor were imprisoned, but it turned out the prison was so nice they ended up liking it more than Azeroth. The elementals have never seemed particularly angry at their imprisonment. In a way, you could say the Titans gave them a space beyond the influence of the old gods where they could just do their own thing.
