Well, let’s see.
The wording in the 1st post definitely sounds a bit sensationalist. However, whatever will be in a possible follow up:
- still does not change the fact that the story was sold as that of seeking justice, yet the devs doubling down on making NElf story a contribution to the “I Feel Lied to” thred.
- still leads to contradicting their own narrative with Tyrande going after Sylvanas while forgiving everyone else (because that’s how life works irl, and thus what people can relate to /s) in the beginning, yet turning around when we’re going to Sylvanas.
(just like not having her or Malfuring during the approach of Orgrimmar in BfA, such turns only make me think that there is no story, just elements placed for the narrative convenience)
So, yeah.
-
The effort placed into heroisation and showing elf competence in a faction conflict scenario is nowhere near the effort placed into showing them as not them (“we do not want to fight” from the BfA pre-patch is out of character completely, and so on).
-
The direction with Tyrande is still inconsistent with what is shown as her motivation at the beginning of Shadowlands.
-
The direction of the story is still, like in many other areas, could be described as “we will twist and alter what you loved, and you should enjoy it”, which is nonsence and you can see plenty of comment about other retcons and inconsistencies in the lore of the last few years (yes, it’s all part of the same approach and of the same problem)
-
Tyrande going to “eh, whatever, we have other things to do” as a continuation of the story sold as that of justice in the promo materials of BfA, is still a contribution to misleading marketing.
So, overall, I would say that the OP does look a bit rought or the execution, but the overall premise, sadly, seems to be accurate, and is the same sort of problems as those that touched others throughout BfA and currently moving forward. It’s just bad and makes me wish for some big changes in the narrative team.
