[SPOILER] Alleria reveals that Xal'atath [redacted]

… is not an Old God. Not sure if this was fully known or not already, but now we know that that mural in Azj-Kahet is related to another being (probably).

This occurs while you’re touring Mereldar near the end of the Hallowfall portion of the campaign. I can’t link images, but the conversation goes as follows:

  • General Steelstrike says: The Harbinger is from the Black Empire? Flames… One of the Old Gods?"

  • Alleria Windrunner says: “No. Something else. A survivor from the depths of time.”

We’ve had the “list” of the Old Gods for a long time and she’s never been on it, so the argument has always been between her being some kind of forgotten, unrecorded Old God or “Something else.”

This line pushes her towards the latter, but I don’t think it’s some kind of grand revelation.

Gotcha. Good to know! And it definitely seems like she’s something else. I get the impression that she is much more powerful than any of the Old Gods, considering her connection to K’aresh/Dimensius and her use of cosmic void.

She seems to of always been the herald of Dimensius. Sort of his Silver Surfer. She shows up, arranges things so he can be manifested in our reality, and then he eats the target planet.

I am betting she showed up on Azeroth during the era of the Black Empire, and the Old Gods did not take too well to being told their hard work setting up things was going to now be destroyed along with them. So, she got stuffed in a locker a magic prison dagger for an eon or two.

I mean… it seems all the evidence is pointing to Xal’atath being a Void Revenant. Very similar to the one Alleria absorbed during Legion. And no, I don’t mean the dark naaru L’ura. I mean the void revenant we fought outside the dungeon. I’ve forgotten its’ name. But other void revenants include Xal’atoh and Xhul’horac.

Is this confirmed somewhere in the alpha? I know Locus-Walker said that the Radiant Song was similar to what they heard before Dimensius destroyed K’aresh, but I wasn’t sure whether Xal’atath had a direct connection to K’aresh and/or Dimensius in some way that is demonstrated in-game.

Honestly, my takeaway from Xalatath’s use of cosmic void-- as well as her being portrayed in dialogue/trailers as being cunning-- is that she is a void lord who maybe “waited for the right time” to destroy Azeroth. I think she will be what Dimensius was to K’aresh, and we’ll face off against her at the end of Midnight.

Just some food for thought. Not sure if this coheres fully with what we know about Xal’atath already, but those are just some of my takeaways from how she’s being written as of now.

My money is Xal’atath being a next-level entity that the Void Lords send in to straighten things up when the Old Gods fail. She’s the clean up crew: if you’re a void being, she’s someone you never want to meet, because even being in her presence means you messed up.

I’m guessing that the Old Gods failed by even establishing the Black Empire to begin with, because they were supposed to burrow to the Worldsoul and corrupt it ASAP. They got cozy and reveled in their power, and Xal’atath got sent in to knock some heads, before getting locked up in a dagger.

This is a recurring theme in War Within: a lot of forces got close to corrupting Azeroth, but then failed. The crystal in Hallowfall almost got to Azeroth, but stopped short before making it Light; the first world tree almost burrowed to Azeroth and made it Life, but failed. The Old Gods almost won, but got power hungry and stopped rather than making it Void. Azeroth sits on a knife’s edge, with every one of the forces so infinitesimally close to winning it all.

Blizzard writers are probably still trying to figure out what exactly she is and how she has been manipulating events all along.

If this were Blizzard a few years ago, I’d agree. However, the WoW team (now 3 teams) is now structured fundamentally differently in a way that allows them to actually plan ahead, which helps a lot with continuity and allows them to know where they’re gonna go with the story.

Why would the writers employ sympathetic language, in this case “survivor”, when having Alleria describe Xal’atath?

If the goal was merely to reach the core, the titans would have won when they had uncontested reign of the planet and the clear goal of shaping Azeroth into a titan. Just look how deep Khaz Algar goes. Is Azj Kahet the furthest point, or is there something deeper?

“The fall of night reveals her true face. She will bring only ruin.” - N’Zoth

Note how the Darkness a being that the Kobald says constantly changes forms every time it comes back from a defeat… Why does it do that? I have a theory on that which will explain what is going on with Night:

“It grows hungrier… bolder. Alas, your eyes are closed.” - N’Zoth

“Have you had the dream again? A black goat with seven eyes that watches from the outside.” - Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron

Now what sort of entity resembles a Goat and is aligned with a Faction associated with the number 7? A Nathrezim!

What if what is contained in Hallowfall’s Crystal is an Army of Nathrezim imprisoned with the Light after the Naaru discovered it through getting the truth out of Lothraxion who wasn’t privy to Denathrius’s true goal?

What happens if The Darkness consumes the Nathrezim-tainted Light Essence after getting beat up by Kobold? Goat with 7 Eyes. Of course the Nathrezim don’t want to simply possess a Goat so better put all that Light back leaving behind a Formless Darkness that needs a different form of Light to feed it’s Hunger.

“She is not the last, but the first. Drown her and you will see.” - N’Zoth

“The drowned god’s heart is black ice.” - The Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron

What happens if Xal’atath falls into a Pool of Nathrezim-tainted Light? She becomes exact sort of force of Light that Alleria sees in her visions imprisoning people in Crystals of Light.

7 is not a Cosmic Force but a fancy word for Denathrius’s Faction! Everyone misinterpreted the Prophecy! The 7 Vices covet what the 6 Cosmic Forces hold fast.

The 6 are one Architect of the Pattern while the 7 Vices are another Architect of the Pattern.

On the matter of the 1 Truth vs 1000 Truths which Firim discovered is equally truthful… Ah yes…

What happens if Azshara finds where the Naaru get their Light from?

The Goddess of Night Xal’atath’s demise and replacement(by whoever) as a God of Light will simply get Azshara the Crooked Serpent with no eyes to target the Light feeding 1000 Naaru now that she knows which of the 2 Truths is false. Cue the Naaru falling to the Void en mass including the Sunwell as Azshara having ascended to Godhood begins her own Campaign of Light to bring existence under her control while the Void in earnest seeks to corrupt Azeroth into a Void Titan to do battle against her.

Fel sword is almost to the heart.

Ice crown is death that was also burrowing towards the heart.

Guess the chamber of the heart may be the titan facility closest to her?

That’s all 6 forces right.

You think the final xpac is all these cosmic forces reaching Azeroth at once and Azeroth ending up being some super balanced cosmic force in the lore? Like planet nirvana. :dracthyr_comfy_blue:

With your powers combined, I am captain literally-a-planet!

GO PLANET!

I think that may actually be the solution rather than the problem. If we, the forces of azeroth who use all the forces, activate all those cosmic power sources at teh same time to awaken our world soul with all those powers, hence banish everyone else in teh end? Idk.
