I’ll be playing priest and will only really have time (during the week) for solo leveling. But would want to group on the weekends. Is there a good split Holy/Shadow spec? Or should I just suck it up and level…as holy =\
Suck it up and level as Shadow. You dont need much to heal 5mans, just some spirit gear

If you are doing a split build it’ll either be disc/shadow or disc/holy. And the main reason you go disc is the mana regen.

Yeah shadow would be your go too. It can heal just fine in 5 mans. You might need to stop and drink a bit more, but it wont feel too different than full holy. Now when you want to heal raids, thats when you want to go and full spec into healer
You can heal as an offspec in the 5 mans, just bring some potions.
I’m going to be contrarian to the advice to ‘just level as shadow’. I leveled a priest as my second Vanilla main, and I went the holy/desc. route. Did I level as quickly as I could have as shadow? No, I did not. But I enjoyed grouping up with random folks and doing lots of 5-mans and it made the group that much stronger having a strong healer at their back.
So, if you like the thought of being a healy priest, it is perfectly fine to level up that way. If your only goal is to get to 60 as soon as possible (which seems to be a common theme in these advice threads) then yes, go shadow.
Personally, I am looking forward to Classic so that I can play Classic, not finish it as quickly as possible.

Shadow heals = good heals, friend. 'Til you start getting serious with healing raids, anyway.
Holy heals = better heals, friend.

Without a doubt. Shadow-specced priests heal “fine” in dungeons. We never had an issue with it, anyway, but I’m sure everyone feels more secure with a holy priest in the group. Peace of mind, I suppose. 
Absolutely, I know plenty of Priests that level as Shadow but still heal dungeons. If you want dungeon healing to be easier, you can max two Holy Talents: Holy Specialization, Divine Fury - my pocket healer is going to do this.
I feel priest is one of the better levelers. You probably want wand damage and spirit tap regardless of your spec. I played a holy/smite build and had little downtime.
I don’t think shadow is that good until shadowform because you are likely primarily wanding anyway, but I’m sure some disagree. I would expect more downtime if you’re using your shadow arsenal every pull, but idk. That’s probably more fun but less efficient.
Any of the specs heal 5 mans fine. We are the master class after all.
