Swg: talent, 2 min cd, 15 sec duration. Talent to reduce cd and increase movement speed, or increase duration.
Hover: baseline ability, 30 sec cd, 6 sec duration. Cant cast empower spells, talent to increase duration, move speed, and/or 2 charges.
When SWG runs out, your cast hard stops on the move. When hover runs out, you can still finish your cast on the move.
Ok shaman, how does that make you feel?
You know how it makes me feel, or do you?
Honestly, it’s okay, because there are bigger issues and this would be a minor QoL improvement. The main reason for my assessment is that Evokers are restricted by about half the cast distance.
Yeah it’s double the duration of cast while moving, but Elemental and Restoration also have some very powerful instant cast abilities that work well. Just to roll through my main spec Elemental: Lava Surges, Icefury Frost Shocks, planned Stormkeepers, Shocks, Earthquakes, and totems, oh my. I’d especially love to see Restoration’s abilities buffed for sure in comparison to Preservations, but that’s a different topic, right.
I don’t think the difference in mobility of casting is outrageous. We’ve been competing with druids for long enough. In terms of mobile casters doing what we do but more on the move, Evokers might be short-ranged druids. They also are their own thing, and it’s fine that they have casting support that works for them.
TL;DR: Short duration mobility when they’re dealing with half the typical cast distance, absolutely complimentary. Not even a smidge of jealousy; Good for them.

That might be the most mature and level headed response ive seen on these forums. Dpswise, doesnt really bother me. Healing wise, it wouldnt bother me but sham heals feel like a trickle instead of the fire hose they should be.
Casting hover induce an animation, a gcd, and will interupt any spell you’re casting when you press it.
“I’m an evoker, i gathered 3 essences and can now press my finishing CHANNEL ability, oops, there is something i must dodge now, i will press hover, my 3 essence cost finishing ability got canceled at 1 tick and no essences were refunded”
No thanks.

If you have played shaman for very long you get use to having a not so great version of something else or someone getting a better version of what you have or had before they took it from you.
We are the hardmode version of healer/caster/melee. Masochism at its finest. Jack of all trades master if none, literally not a single one. Shaman is one of the only classes left where your decisions have dire consequences.
A brief but not all inclusive list.
Ghost wolf vs travel form
Hex vs sheep
Lasso vs any stun
Water walking vs path of frost vs lock mount
Cap totem vs any aoe stun
Haste buff dispel protection from WotLK removed and given to locks
Caste LB while moving removed and given to fire mages
Earthgrab totem vs druid aoe roots
Thunderstorm vs literally any of the other knockbacks given to almost every other class.
Healing rain vs druid ground heal
Healing tide totem vs tranq or hymn
However with all being said, I choose to play shaman time and time again. I am a much better DK druid and lock than I am a shaman. Yet here I am playing what I enjoy.
They should have given shaman the phrase suffer well instead of DKs. Suits us much better. Sort of like the infantry slogan embrace the suck.

I do get that there is a lot of this stuff where sham or someone will have a weaker version but it’s okay here.
Hover is a core skill evokers NEED. With their short range and it’s just their style.
Spiritwalkers grace is a choice to help fill in the gaps where you might need it for some encounters.

Have you guys actually used hover ???
It’s an awful spell to use in it’s current form.

Personally you are comparing apples to oranges. SWG in my opinion is far more superior in every way, lasts longer and you get 20% speed for 15 seconds. I honestly think it should just be a 1 min cd but might be insanely strong.
Hover yes it’s a 30 sec cd, interrupts casts, still useless if you need to cast an Empower Spell, on the GCD, it’s literally more used exactly like Gusts of Wind which can be talented to be 20 seconds.
Honestly it’s more a dash tool to dodge melee mechanics due to our pitiful range more then anything or catching up to the next pack in M+, Issues Resto/Ele shamans don’t have.
Heck I’m waiting for them to change or buff Resto Shamans as I’m a Shaman main. But I’m no masochist trying to push keys as one.
you just dont know how to play S tier shaman class
I think spiritswalkers is perfect we have way worse QoL issues then that.
I think you need to consider range limitations in this comparison. It’s just another way of playing healing.
