Here an idea: New Spell [Spirit Guide]. When summoned, lasts until killed or dismissed like a hunter pet or warlock minion. Changes based on spec and is customizable. Example: Hunter pet Cunning, Ferocity, and Tenacity. Appearance customization and mini talent tree/customization. 
Just roll a hunter and tame spirit beast.
Edit: or alternatively there’s a new talent that makes spirit wolves a non active ability.
