Spirit Bond (Survival) not working for some raid bosses

The new mastery for Survival hunters is amazing. I like the theme of having to be near your pets and getting a buff from that. But during some boss fights in raid Ive noticed that my pet goes to one spot of the boss and when i have to move I lose the spirit bond buff because Im farther than 25 yards. This is a 100% loss in spirit bond…

Are there any plans in the works to fix the pathing for pets with respect to this?

i don’t know if there are any changes planned for default pet positioning on bosses, but a couple things that may help in the meantime:

pressing the “follow” button should make them stay next to you instead. this can disrupt their auto-attack behavior, but i find that after a kill command, they’ll resume attacking as long as you remain close enough to the target for them to be in melee range

there’s also “move to.” it’s a bit more micromanage-y, but it’s good for cases where you need to move away from the target and don’t want your pet to follow you

I tink pets go to a specific spot picked by Blizzard to not get in the way of melee players. You can pick a spot where you’ll be dpsing from and use the Move To command on immobile enemies like the Bloodbound Horror but for the rest you’ll have to micromanage a bit with the follow command.

There coded to stay behind bosses. It’s first to stay out of tanks area, and secondary to avoid frontal damage. This also what causes many pets to bug, either not able to reach their targets or not find a path.

The new mastery is very powerful but a bit of a pain to leverage against Bloodbound Horror.

IMO there ought to be some change- substantially increase the range of Roar of Sacrifice, and/or, adjust the 25-yard range to measure the distance between the Hunter and the Pet’s target, rather than between the Hunter and the Pet.

Another option is to give the Hunter an indicator of the pet’s position by default. Maybe minimap, high strata, or something on the field like a /ping only the Hunter can see. Pet positioning is kind of unpredictable on Bloodbound Horror. In warcraftlogs replays, you can actually track the position for the entire encounter and see that it isn’t clear whether the pet is always on the left, right, or back of the boss, but it is clear that the pet is not trying to follow the Hunter on its own.

In the meantime we might consider keeping Dash off of auto-cast, then only activating it when it’s time to rein in the pet, i.e. before a long run (a beam sequence, focusing an add on a different platform, or, when Rasha’nan takes off to a new position).

/cast dash
/petfollow
