Spell macro not using max rank

My mouseover macro isn’t using the max rank of the spell, this is on a boosted character. I have a mouseover renew macro and instead of using rank 10 like it should, it is only using rank 5. I should also add that it randomly uses max rank sometimes.

I’m having the same issue with Frostbolt… no modifiers or anything, just “/cast Frostbolt” and it casts Rank 3 instead of Rank 10. When I leveled up and trained other spells, it started using Rank 10. But just updated the macro (put an /assist at the top) and it’s using Rank 3 again.

Same issue here, macro randomly using downranked spells on boosted character (mage). relogging fixed this issue (so far). very interesting bug, maybe something to do with bartender4? idk

current theory: it’s on blizzards end and their servers don’t register your boosted character level until you log out (not exit game but actually log out and wait the 20 seconds). who knows though, hopefully someone will shed some light on this soon

update: worth noting that I had the wrong version of neatplates installed (live version instead of tbc classic), but I do not think that was the issue here

update2: installed latest version of neatplates, now back to downranked spells, /reload did nothing once again, relogging fixed it temporarily again, but restarting the game resets me back to downranked spells.

update3: disabling all addons and /reloading did nothing, the only consistent “fix” seems to be logging in and then relogging, exiting game -> logging in resets back to downranked spells

Confirmed, same issue here. Hard to recreate but the only fix appears to be a re-log until the correct rank spells are listed.

I noticed the same problem with several abilities as well. I decided to add the spell rank desired into the macro as a workaround but I will not be happy having to change my macros every time I level up an ability.

Confirming still an issue. Also it’s not just one macro that’s bugged, all macros for the character will be using the wrong ranks until a relog

you can mention the rank of the ability in the macro. that way it will use the rank you mentioned.

You shouldn’t have to do this, it should be defaulting to the max rank if none are specified.

Additionally, the inclusion of the ranks breaks some macros quite significantly. For example, if you are running a Drain Life/Mana/Soul macro to prevent spamming the ability whilst you are already channeling that specific spell, adding in spell ranks breaks the macro.

I tried to heal slave pens with old mouseover macros and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t keep anyone up!

Problem for me too!

seems like the initial login always has this issue, once I relog once it seems to fix itself.

Can confirm this is happening for me and my buddy as well… Extremely strange behavior. And also annoying since my macros literally nerfed me without me knowing for quite a while.

Also experiencing the same issue. Realized I was dropping the wrong ranks of totems for I don’t even know how long. Only fix is to input the rank name into the macro now, which is pretty annoying when constantly changing the totems in your castsequence macro…

Leveling a boosted mage here and having this issue. My Blizzard, Frostbolt and Mage Armor are all using low ranked spells in my macros.

Simple macros such as this are having issues. And yes I’m going to start putting the max ranked ones in these.

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast [mod:ctrl]Blizzard(Rank 1);[]Blizzard

Blizzard is casting Rank 2 here, even with Rank 6 in my spellbook.

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:ctrl]Mage Armor;[]Frost Armor

Mage Armor is casting Rank 2, even with Rank 3 in my spellbook.

Can confirm this appears to only be happening for Level 58 boosted characters. I wish we can get a blue post acknowledgment on this, super annoying bug.

Hi, just found the same problem here for me. I have a lvl 58 boosted lock on TBC classic and the only correlation I can find it that it is only happening on Corruption, Drain Soul, and Curse of weakness.

I have some mouseover, castsequence and targeting macros and they all default to rank 5 corruption. I even made a fresh plain macro with no conditionals and still rank 5.

#showtooltip
/cast corruption

And to think I am heading into Kara for the first time tonight… lol

Just went through everything and heres what I got. I thought maybe it had something to do with any spell that had a talent tree upgrade but not all of these do.

Corruption(Rank 8) Showing Rank 5
Drain Soul(Rank 8) Showing Rank 4
Drain Mana(Rank 6) Showing Rank 4
Curse of Weakness(Rank 8) Showing Rank 3

Same thing happening for me on a boosted lock. I have a macro set up to send my pet in when I cast Corruption. My max level Corruption is rank 8 but macro uses rank 5. I altered the macro to tell it to use rank 8 but it doesn’t work. I’ve tried logging out, reloading, deleting the macro and recreating it, and disabled all addons. None of these fixed the problem.

Can we get a blue response? It seems boosted characters are not working properly.

Still an issue… fixes if you have a zone change (ala joining a BG) or relogging. But a reloadUI doesn’t seem to reliably fix it.

I just noticed this after getting the dark portal pass. It’s happening to all of my characters. Is there still no blue respone?
