Spell customizations

I’m excited to see the changes coming for mage! I think it would also be cool if we could get some flavor to our spell effects. Kind of like warlocks can have green fel flame, what if fire mages could use the neat shadowflame effect or something neat like that. Idk just an idea but it would be cool!

Agreed, we’re all in dire need of customization love. To this day I have no idea why the Glyph system was abandoned instead of expanded upon. There are generally just so many cool assets out there that continue to be added with every expansion but are never made available to the players and instead we just get to see NPC’s rocking them.

Mages in particular have such great examples in Khadgar and Jaina of what our own spells could look like. But alas we’re stuck with some spells that haven’t changed since Vanilla (looking at you Ice Barrier) and really have only had one single instance when spell visuals were updated back in Legion and that’s it.

What was done with Water Elemental glyphs in BfA should be something that happens every expansion! Hell, if it would motivate Bobby I am sure people would shell out hundreds of dollars if they ever added spell customizations to the in-game store. He could get another mega yacht just from those proceeds alone!

The fact that Druid players got all their different form customizations in the barber shop really made me grind my teeth.

Meanwhile us Mages sparkle when we Slow Fall, and we can change the color of our Water Elemental… We’re MAGES. Blizz can do better than that.

Something I had posted way back was that every expansion the mages fiery abilities should start off the usual orange and with each ilvl point they gain its hue would gradually change to blue then blue/white, and if they maxxed their ilvl all thier abilities would be white flame with a blue hue or something. Doesnt have to be that exactly, just an idea. As the mage gains in power, his flame gets hotter.

Yeah! I should be able to attack people with an arcane pirate ship also! Or turn into a raven or something idk lol but warlocks keep getting neat things and it’s time we stamp our feet ans say no fair!

VERY subtle changes :grimacing: You see so many glyphs for the same thing, you’d think “Oh cool, we can have all sorts of WE colors that we see ingame”, when in fact, everything is just a slight different shade of blue.

The OP is right. There are a lot of flavor to be added to mages, even if it’s just glyphs.

  • A glyph to make Fireball or Frostbolt appear like Frostfire Bolt cosmetically
  • Shadowflame for fire spells
  • Arcane particles added to Fireball or Frostbolt… “Yeah I’m arcane main but I’m just delving into those for fun”
  • Void particles added to the main nukes, void elf rejoice
  • Change the portal appearances to a void rift appearance
  • Random people or party members instead of your mirror images
  • Glyph to alter the Arcane Familiar into something more interesting than a low effort ball

I want purple fire and black ice!

You joke but when I saw those cannons fire for the first time it was a table slap moment for me. I was like: “this is what Arcane Blast needs to look like!” sans the cannon of course, lol.

Unbelievably, we’re actually getting something like that because they’re finally making the Tarecgosa legendary staff on-use transformation into a proper ability. I can finally stop using that super complex macro now. Of course it’s not just a Mage thing but I will take it.

I would absolutely love if fire got the shadomflame customizations. I have heard rumblings that they’d go to locks if anything, which makes sense since they’re the golden child who can never not be on top of the dps meters and only has one special customization instead of zero.

But seriously, after the dog house mage has been in, instead of just fixing us to where we should have been at the start of the expac regarding class design, giving us some cool customization would go a long way in feeling like we are valued rather then being constantly second fiddle to locks. I’d honestly even be happy if fire got the customizations as well as warlocks getting them. That said if it happens and its just locks and we get jack I’m gonna be ready to whine like the mage I am.

YES!! Let us change our ice abilities into obsidian/lava or time/arcane per spec! Let us bring back our floating Fireballs for Phoenix Flames (Where are my balls, Blizzard?!), heck, let us be on Fire/Frozen/Magic Sparkley all the time!

Visual reminder of how cool this looked and how it totally deserved to be a glyph:

For dog’s sake, we even have a staff themed around it!
