Speed leveling shaman question

Hey guys!

I’m not loads hardcore about speed leveling but when I’m online I want to make sure it counts so I will take on speed leveling guides/tips and tricks.

One thing is that shaman totem quests (especially earth) are kinda annoying and a lot of running back and forth. Do you think these are worth to skip until later? I don’t see them being a huge benefit in questing speed level style. Plus no dungeons until past 50 anyway.

Any thoughts?

Water totem is kind of a massive waste of time if you are speed leveling. Earth,Fire, Air are all you need. Even then Air is debatable since you get the self windfury buff but I don’t play shaman and never really have. You will have to confirm this.

Earth Totem is basically free. You can get it in the starting zone for minimal effort, and if nothing else boosts the exp gained there.

Water totem is obnoxious and only really benefits healers, particularly other healers in a raid setting.

Wind can be… ehhhhhh. All I remember about it is being told to jump off a cliff.

Fire is a bit of a tossup because the AoE totem, which would speed up leveling the most, is also super expensive in terms of mana, which would also slow leveling the most.

But Earth is free.

Hah but earth is free.

Yeahi confused water with earth. Just did the water totem quest in pserver and it sucked. Just… Running everywhere.

Actually that calms my mind. I’ll probably skip that one (until I switch Resto). Try do the others as I go

IMO, if speed leveling just get Earth and Fire.

Earth lets you earthbind kite mobs which greatly increases efficiency while leveling, and fire totem because searing totem is one of your largest damage sources while leveling.

Water and Air are both nice, but neither are really super critical.

On my shaman, I will likely not get either water/air totems until at least 40… much in the same way I’m not bothering on my warlock to get succubus or felhunter very rapidly either… In all honesty you could even wait until 60 to do so, though people might get a bit more upset, depending on how much grouping you do 55+ (which is slower leveling, but can save you time post 60 grinding those dungeons regardless for preraid bis)

Call of Earth: Do this. It’s a level 4 quest, it’s easy and early XP.
Call of Fire: Also do this. Again, it’s early and easy.
Call of Water: Skip it. It takes forever and takes you to areas that contain mobs between +6 and +9 levels if you try to do it at level 20. Go back for it at 30 or 40.
Call of Air: Do it. Call of Air was a placeholder quest that never got finished. You literally just go to the Thousand Needles elevator and talk to the guy. (The “Jump off the cliff” was a different quest at the same location that a lot of people get confused about.)

Sweet got it  thanks guys. That’s helpful

If you choose to do the Water totem quest and want it to feel like it’s awarding you with more, then do the following:

Do the Call of Water quests until you receive instructions to find Brine in south Barrens.

Start the quest chain for Goblin Invaders which requires you to kill 15 Venture Co Loggers in Stonetalon Mountains.

After this quest is finished, it leads to The Elder Crone. At this time, continue your water totem quest or confirm your progress on this chain. Call of Water will have you do a couple things in the Barrens, but as soon as you get to quest id 1530 which requires you to go south to Brine, you can start to do The Elder Crone and Call of Water quest chains in parallel with each other, like so:

Call of Water id 1530 and id 1535, southern Barrens. + The Elder Crone and Forsaken Aid, Thunder Bluff

Take Thunder Bluff flight to Orgrimmar, then walk to Zeppelin.

Call of Water id 1536 and Journey to Tarren Mill in Tarren Mill

The Elder Crone quest chain asks you to stay in Hillsbrad for a moment and do the quest Blood of Innocents which is a collection quest, requiring you to kill level 21-22 Syndicate Shadow Mages for 5 Vial of Innocent Blood, which ends the chain.

Hearth, from there.

Continue the rest of the Call of Water chain at your leisure, which eventually makes you run back to Silverpine Forest, which you can do if you happen to be in the area. Getting flight paths on your previous run to Tarren Mill will help with this.

For reference, this is the complete Elder Crone chain including the bread crumb quest:

The Spirits of Stonetalon > Goblin Invaders > The Elder Crone > Forsaken Aid > Journey to Tarren Mill > Blood of Innocents

The call of water quest with notes and quest ID:

Call of Water (1528, talk in west Barrens) > Call of Water (1530, talk in south Barrens) > Call of Water (1535, use item in south Barrens) > Call of Water (1536, use item in Tarren Mill) > Call of Water (1534, use item in Ashenvale) > Call of Water (220, deliver item to west Barrens) > Call of Water (63, kill NPC in Silverpine) > Call of Water (100, speak to NPC in Silverpine) > Call of Water (96, deliver item in west Barrens)

Sweeeeet man! I’m certainly keeping this for later efficiency  good info

Sorry for late response.

I leveled multiple shaman in OG Vanilla and on Private servers.

I see no problem at all with getting all totems as you level. The water totem quest line is the most annoying BUT you can time this to get key flight paths as you do it, making it minimally annoying. When you run a dungeon it will help.

This also gives you access to poison cleanse totem, mana spring, and healing spring. Mana spring if you are going to kill mobs in a certain area, is a net gain in mana after a few ticks. It helps with efficiency. Also, searing totem is very key for about any engagement you will want to have it down as well.

TLDR: Get all your totems as they become available. Use the running around the world as an opportunity to get flight points and prepare for the future. It isn’t that difficult to dodge agro or escape agro in higher level zones.
