My wife is deaf, and struggles with our guild being on voice chat. When we heard about the Speech-to-Text Chat Transcription we were excited. Today, several people in my guild tried to get this functionality to work, but were unsuccessful.
We joined Guild Voice Chat, Enabled Transcription Service, but once the Voice Tab opened and printed: Transcription Started. It stopped there - No speech-to-text appeared.
We tried across several computers and in-game voice chat channels, all to no avail. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
That is odd that the speech to text is not working. Based on what you shared being done, I’m wondering if this is a server side setting since they are now saved so they can carry across to another system. I wasn’t sure what exact setting may be causing this so I’d suggest starting out with a general reset of those server side settings. It’s just typed or copy/pasted into chat followed by pressing enter:
/console cvar_default
It may give an error but should still reset all server side settings. Keep in mind other settings not found in menus may also be reset with this but it’s the best way to start off “clean” for settings.
After that’s done, test if the transcription works. If there’s still a problem, follow this up with a reset of the in-game settings. You can do that in-game with the rest button or via the Battle.net application.
If it persists past this, I’d be curious if this is affecting all characters or specific one(s). Another idea at this point may be also if you have your own World of Warcraft account, test if it works for any of your own characters.

My friends and I are having exactly the same issue. We tried the Speech to Text option on the new interface, and absolutely nothing changes. We can hear the person speaking normally but it’s as if the Speech to Text checkbox is completely inactive. We’ve tried this across a couple of regions and it behaves the same way. We were really hoping to be able to use this option, so this is very frustrating.
