Spectrum internet issues

Anyone here have issues with spectrum over the past few months? I finally found the solution to fix my issue.

Spectrums new routers are very bad. I’ve had 7 techs out they have replaced my router 5 times and modem twice. I finally had enough and 2 days ago went out and bought a $70 walmart nighthawk router and have had not a single issue since. Called this morning to cancel theirs.

If you are using the SAC wave 2 router from spectrum it is 100% causing your issues. Hopefully someone having the same issues as me and my brother can fix this.

I was having the issue on all games that ran thru spectrums hubs. League of legends, PUBG, WOW, and tarkov all kept disconnecting randomly. With my new router that I bought I haven’t had an issue since.

I decided against using one of their routers as soon as I saw they charged an extra $5/month if you wanted wireless with their equipment.

I had an issue where my modem kept resetting itself randomly. It took two visits before they called a line tech, one more for them to tell me it was my router, $200 in new equipment, and a fourth visit before they admitted that it was definitely on their end and actually resolved. As an added bonus, the last tech they sent out told me that there was another person sharing the same junction that was having the exact same issue.

I’d try another ISP but they’re the only ones that offer anything faster than mediocre DSL where I live.

This sounds like my issue. To Walmart I go!

Yea, they’re the only broadband providers here other than centurylink dsl, and they stopped installing lines 2 miles up the road on either side of me.

:rage:

Also, oops, necro.

I understand the anger in regards to internet issues, but I’m sure your ISP is doing their best. Putting them on blast by saying they are on the spectrum is uncalled for, and generally just not a cool thing to say in this day and age.

months?
Try years.
I hate them. Worst customer service ever.
I literally traced the problem to one of their servers one day…called them and told them which server it was and got cussed at and the phone hung up on me, lol.
They kept trying to blame my web hosting companies servers…but based on the fact that my sites were running just fine if I went to them without using spectrums servers…(my cell phone hotspot)…and the fact that the trace was showing their servers, the chump could have just admitted it and let me know they were having problems.

Service is constantly going down for hours at a time leaving me to use my cell hotspot.

Im tempted to change but my only other option Id consider has a data cap and Im not ok with that from the last time I had a capped service.

We have Spectrum’s “gig” service in TN and it’s abysmal. Average speed is only about 500Mbps, and we encounter dips down into 2-15Mbps at least 4-5x a week, for hours at a time.

But the worst part is the latency. I play on Lightbringer and had 20-30ms on AT&T. On Spectrum, it’s 90-110ms.

The issue is routing: Spectrum’s backbone is awful, and bounces packets across the country several times before they arrive at my realm. Unfortunately, I’ve had multiple Spectrum reps tell me that unless my latency is 1000ms or more, they consider it “working as intended” and there’s nothing they can do.

I miss the low latency we had with AT&T, but we dropped them after 4 years because their fiber modem (which you’re required to use in our area) is terrible and kept disconnecting. I’m hesitant to go back to them.

Yeah I been buying my own router over the last 10 years with TimeWarner now Spectrum. They have always had bad equipment yet charge a crap ton of money montly.

Ah terrible trolling

Yeah, Spectrum sucks but they have the monopoly here in my neck of the NC foothills.

Nothing to be done, except like you mentioned, use your own router and do what ya can.

Cool kids don’t game over WiFi.

Isnt spectrum another branch of Cox Cable?

Most of their new routers are terrible.

They are just refurbished junk. :+1:

Had to do the exact same thing as you and unfortunately I live in a small town. They say I should be able to get 200 Mbps but I still only ever get 100 Mbps max oh well

Spectrum is Charter Communications. They took over Time Warner Cable a few years ago. Only Comcast is bigger.

I’ve finally got to resub back to Spectrum at the start of August after I’ve spent 8 years away from them (under the normal Charter name) because my apt complex decided to contract with some back-alley provider offering speeds from the 1990s and constant latency dropouts (unrelated side story I can go off on a rant with).

I’ve always used my own routers for as long I’ve used broadband for the plethora of features and the potential of using custom firmware if need be, so I had no idea how bad Spectrum’s routers are. I’ve had hiccups with them but they’ve always fixed it promptly, so my overall experience have been positive both 8 years ago and when I resubbed in Aug. My current package is 400Mbps but I’ve been peaking at 450Mbps; I think that’s mostly me tweaking my network registry settings and enabling NAT acceleration.
