Specs with same name should get some update

Right now we have 2 set of specs that are using the same name:

  • Protection Paladin / Protection Warrior, and
  • Holy Paladin / Holy Priest

Imo, the term “Protection” fits more towards the Warrior fantasy than the Paladin. Maybe we can change Paladin tank spec to something like “Vanguard” or “Phalanx”.

As for the Holy terms, it fits the fantasy of both healing specs mentioned. However, one’s a sword and shield wielding healer that prefers to be close in melee range, while the other prefers to be far away from the action. So an appropriate term that wouldn’t change spec identity imo would be for Holy Priest to adapt to a new spec name “Hierophant”.

Any thoughts? Just some random things I thought of while looking at my toons lol.

What about something like this:

Defense Warrior and Protection Pally.

Preservation Shaman and Resto Druid

Ice Mage and Frost DK

And as for Holy Priests and Paladins I can’t quite think of anything off the top of my head.

Ice and Frost are the same.

I also used to have Combat as a spec but now it is Outlaw.

The combat change to Outlaw was also stupid.

But what the OP is wanting makes sense.

Why have specs from different classes that are the same name when you can change them to a name that means the same thing?

Frost Mage came before Frost DK so you can change the DK name, I’m good with that. Ice DK.

The only time this ever bothered me was when I was writing an addon and using spec names not thinking about shared names and going “hm, why isn’t this protection pally table working on my protection warrior?” :laughing:
