"Spec" weapon restrictions in Shadowlands?

I love that you guys are talking about going back to the core class itself being the heart of the identity and stepping back specs from feeling like individual “classes” to actually being “specializations”, and to build upon that, can we please open up the weapon options for said specs. 2h wielding Enhancement Shamans, 2h wielding Frost Death Knights, etc?

I think the reason they’d be reticent to do that is because it makes balancing more difficult. In addition to having to balance the spec against all of the rest, it also then needs to be balanced against itself internally. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I think they view it as trouble they don’t need.

Now that ability damage comes from attack power instead of weapon damage, I dont see why they cant let people wield whatever they want.

Just remove the restriction to abilities requiring a specific weapon, so people can have fun and equip whatever they want. (Well, shield abilities can still require shields. Shield Slam kind of requires it, lol)

I think the issue is that the build would be expected to be supported. It would create a 4th dk spec in essence. And that is the challenge. Say 2h is doing vastly superior to unholy and all other specs and dw is in the crapper: how do you nerf 2h and buff dw?

I love 2h frost and miss it dearly, but the way it played out before you went whichever was simming the best for whatever content you were doing. Or pigeon holed into 2h because getting a second 1h weapon was a PITA.

Imo, they could just leave it as is in that case.
If 2H is doing much better than 1H, then just… leave it be. The point is to give the player a choice

Its no different than letting say, a DK equip cloth armor. Obviously its not as efficient, but why not let people do it if they want?

Yeah I’m pretty sure I remember that being an explanation they gave some years ago. However I’m inclined to say, I don’t care. As in, I don’t care if it’s more work for them. It’s a massive, important part of how we play our character and they took that choice away from us to make their job easier. That sucks.

Yeah, well, you also can’t exactly “stab” someone with a mace either.

Solution IMHO is just to have DKs mog them into 2Handers. For all intents though the game acknowledges a dual wield. Problem solved basically.

This is probably the easiest solution!

Id be down for it.

That is ingenious! Love it!

I read something…somewhere…sometime years ago that said 2-H weapons are too iconic for DKs and that’s why you have to 2-H and cannot dual wield. I think a 2-H or dual wield build for all melee DPS would be fantastic. Yes, we all know: Blizzard would have to do A LOT of work to make DPS, CCs, and CDs correctly balanced. IMHO, blizz can get over it and make it happen.

The term “single minded fury” comes to…well mind

Just make it cosmetic like how artifact skins can transmog over various 1h or 2h to make the appropriate look.

Honestly, I’m sick of the sight of dual wielding death knights. It made no sense to me. I’d feel more comfortable as a DK wielding a massive 2-handed weapon. It’s a better fit than dual-wielding death knights.

I’m a Worgen, I should use fist weapons or just my claws.

Its a cool idea, but as others have said, they already have a hard enough time balancing things. When frost was 2her or dual wield, they ended up essentially being 2 specs rather than just frost. Different performance levels, different statweights, ect. It’d be a balancing nightmare.

If its purely cosmetic, like frost DKs, enh shamans transmogging their dual weapons into a 2her, then that’d be cool. I see nothing wrong with that.

This is the easiest answer.

You mean the lazyest?

That too.

“Muh because it is too hard to balance”. It’s not even a excuse anymore, pvp frost uses a totaly different damage modifier in pvp since a lot of their skills deal little to no damage. They have the technology to tune different weapons damage , they don’t do it bacause they are lazy.
