Spec Popularity

Looking at data for azeroth I see Ret is the most popular at max level. Is it really that fun?

Am I missing possible bot numbers or other factors?

Meanwhile rogue is so terribly low on the chart. It used to be the cool fun class in tbc, couldn’t miss them if my memory serves correctly. What happened?

I got my rogue alt to 644ilvl and it seems okay, really fun as outlaw but my damage is terrible since I’m bad at it lol.

ret seems to be the most powerful spec all through season 2, and in the previous season as well

Being a semi-ranged wizard of light is indeed big fun, can confirm.

True, it’s high on the list for m+ and feels good in general. I see a lot of positivity around it.

No not really.

Its just like when DHs debuted. All your attacks hit everything regardless of ST or AoE, so you cant screw up.

And its damage is just tuned to be ridiculously good.

Its too easy and too good to be of actual “fun” for me. But that kind of ease seems to be fun for a lot of others

RET is easy to play, tanky and does good damage.

Which is so funny because Paladins are my second least favorite class to play as. I enjoy Protection decently, never healed as Paladin but I feel I’d decently enjoy em? But Retribution, that Ive played as off & on from Vanilla to Legion, always trying to settle into the class…nope…just isn’t me, not compatible…

Rogue on the otherhand is up pretty high as a fav class of mine, I just hate how the general gameplay & experience of PVE often feels at odds with the design & structure of Rogues.

Back when, you’d almost always see them running around. Now, I never see them in dungeons or group content. Very rarely I’ll see one pop out of stealth for a world quest, but that’s it.

Fun is subjective, but it’s an easy spec that does decent damage and has decent utility.

Sounds like rogues got better at being rogues

Truly, they have mastered the art of vanishing.

Fun is subjective. However, there is no doubt that ret is effective for the amount of work you put in.

Also sin is nuts right now. It’s a shame sub only had the spotlight for like a little under a month.

I’ve played my pally on and off as well which prompted this thread to be honest. I’m finding outlaw to be really fun, more so than ret. I just don’t like the stealth bugs throwing me out and all the aoe making life miserable lol

So far my demo lock, arcane mage and outlaw rogue are really standing out for me. Heck my warrior is my backup for when I get frustrated at the stealth bugs and want to melee.

Eh. It’s good at a lot of things. Fun…

Rogue has a higher point of entry in terms of skill compared to classes like hunter or paly.
And to do good damage, you have to be involved. Not mostly /afk and hit your builders, spenders, shiny button.

Due to it’s rng nature, you will either carry or sit at the bottom lol.
Personally I would play assassination. The damage is WAY more predictable. It just has more going on and maintenance. But the order of operations that is your rotation will be mostly unchanged, making it easier and higher damage overall.

Good point, sin rogue is nice. I’ll make him a pirate sin rogue until I learn outlaw better!

Ret is staying true to its class fantasy, while being rotationally a relatively straightforward and intuitive specialization. There are not many specs like that in the game right now, which is a shame. But I would wager that also helps.

Yeah, I heard Crusader Strike is like baked into its auto attack or something like that.

Lol pass.

Outlaw is unfortunately about gear and stats. If you have the wrong main stat, your dps is going to be hot garbage.
If you aren’t watching your dice and mishandling things like between the eyes. It’s going to be garbage.

Like outlaw doesn’t have a lot of buttons, but unfortunately the skill cap to play it even at a medium level right now is higher than almost any other class lol.

But I am also biased towards mut. I was a tab targeting fool of a mut rogue way back when. I’ve dabbled in outlaw enough to know it’s a major pain in the buns lol. (I still play combat in sod though)

Ret, BM, Frost mage, Fury warrior, and Destro lock have been pretty consistently the top 5 most played specs since dragonflight S1.

Yeah, imagine someone playing Outlaw and their highest secondary is Mastery through gear.
