Spec performances in 3v3 & RSS

Well, it’s Friday. The unofficial-official day for threads like this.

As last time, I took the representation > 1800 and compared it with the representation > 2400 and > 2700 rating. This doesn’t exactly say if a spec is too strong or not strong enough, just how good the chances are to succeed with the spec.

Don’t understand this of how strong a spec in general is or in your personal mmr regions, but of how good your chances are to reach 2700+ with a spec!

Very unpopular specs like Outlaw, Fire, Aug or Enha are not very accurate, as a single player less or more would make a huge difference! Keep that in mind!!

How to read it? Well, lets say a spec has a value of 2.5%. Then its representation was maybe 7.5% at > 1800 but 10% at > 2700 → 10 - 7.5 = 2.5% That means its performing way better at > 2700 than at > 1800 which indicates its very good at top ratings.

If the value would be -2.5% it would indicate that a spec is doing better at mid than at top ratings!!

Lets start with 3v3:

spec 1800 2400 % 2700 % spec 1800 2400 % 2700 %
Arms 2089 54 0.92% 45 3.81% Aug 48 3 -0.08% 0 -0.19%

MW 722 130 1.86% 22 3.06% Arcane 381 41 -0.03% 4 -0.44%
Frost 1021 151 1.43% 26 2.95% Ret 1194 170 1.44% 16 -0.46%

Sub 712 98 0.73% 15 1.21% Destro 468 39 -0.45% 4 -0.79%
Hpal 1458 204 1.62% 25 0.92% UDK 342 26 -0.42% 2 -0.83%
Outlaw 132 21 0.24% 4 0.55% BM 818 94 0.16% 9 -0.84%
Rdruid 1436 171 0.50% 23 0.47% SV 321 22 -0.48% 1 -1.02%
Boomy 588 73 0.31% 10 0.35% Fury 498 20 -1.27% 3 -1.19%
MM 499 35 -0.72% 3 -1.19%
Shadow 910 64 -1.31% 8 -1.48%
WW 992 84 -0.90% 9 -1.54%
Demo 677 65 -0.34% 2 -2.17%
Rshaman 906 39 -2.21% 2 -3.09%
Disc 1202 41 -3.32% 3 -4.01%
Hpriest 2133 138 -3.50% 14 -4.77%

Left side the overperforming specs, right side the underperforming ones. I would say everything >= 2% is S tier, >= 0% is A tier, >= -1% B tier, >= -3% C tier, < 3% D tier

Yes, based on that Shadow, surprisingly WW and Demo are clearly underperforming, at least at top ratings! Balance Druid is very balanced  and maybe a bit surprising for some MW, Pres, DH and Deva are S tier! We can see a clear Healer shift lately! But 3v3 is very meta depending, so lets follow with Shuffle to compare:

spec 1800 2400 % 2700 % spec 1800 2400 % 2700 %
DH 5234 299 -0.79% 61 2.66% Outlaw 504 26 -0.11% 0 -0.38%

Aug 451 40 0.08% 4 0.09%
Affli 2832 205 0.03% 20 0.02%

Same here, positive left side, negative right side. So a lot more specs are more or less overperforming than underperforming here. While Arms can’t take its dominance over to RSS, there are specs like DH, Pres, Deva and MW who are also sitting on the top in that bracket. So I think we can clearly see what specs could use a nerf because they are too shiny!

But we also see what specs could probably use a buff (Rshaman, all 3 Priest specs, WW (toolkit / uptime) and probably more). Specs that are doing way better than being told are Outlaw and Fire, even though Outlaw is the only spec that hasn’t a single spot on 2700 in shuffle which is sad! Boomy finally raised up and is good enough imo (sorry Nasrajin  )

When you are curious, here are spec popularities for 3s and rss combined at > 1800:

spec % spec % spec %
Arms 7.85% Rshaman 3.45% FDK 1.94%
Hpriest 6.99% Fury 3.27% Destro 1.91%
Disc 6.07% MM 3.20% Affli 1.88%
Ret 5.83% Shadow 3.19% UDK 1.70%
Hpal 5.21% MW 2.83% Arcane 1.65%
Rdruid 4.45% Feral 2.48% Pres 1.50%
WW 4.41% Sub 2.44% SV 1.30%
Frost 4.22% Boomy 2.30% Enha 0.77%
Ele 4.09% Demo 2.24% Fire 0.75%
DH 3.56% Assa 2.16% Outlaw 0.46%
BM 3.52% Deva 2.11% Aug 0.27%

So the most popular DPS specs are Arms, Ret, WW and Frost while the least are Enha, Fire, Outlaw and Augmentation.

Have a great weekend!

You can’t use these stats to determine what’s underperforming. That’s not even how data analytics works. Sure you could use this data as part of an argument but you would need a lot more information to get a conclusion.

My dear Swole. Its not perfect! It would be way better to have access to detailed activity databases with win/loss ratio etc. and datamine from there, but its still better than nothing and definitely does it give us a rudimentary picture of the meta and what specs are having more success at top ratings than others.

Nothing else was the intention. You might feel that Enha is the worst spec ever, but that’s just a subjective impression. This type of data analysis is much more objective, but as already mentioned, it is of course anything but perfect!

It simply compares the spec representation at 1800 and compares it with its representation at 2700. Nothing magical, but still does it show how the chances are to achieve 2700+ simply based on the spec!

Glad something I said was retained.

It’s not tho. Sometimes nothing is better than something.

Data analytics does not work like this. You can’t take one piece of data and draw conclusions. Sure it’s fun to look at but it’s no different than like looking at a horoscope.

If you don’t like it, then why do you waste your time here? The exit is over there →

Oh so ww needs buffs?
ROFLMAOAOAO

Because I haven’t given him permission to leave.

Anyways nerf Frost Mage (I am biased).

The chart is incomplete. It is missing several specs.

Not against players like you, but against good players they lack toolkit and combat range uptime. In other words: good players/teams can stop WW from doing anything useful!

Remember, we are looking here at 2700+!

Its showing all DPS and Healer specs, just not tank specs. If you can’t see yours, you probably need to scroll.

Left side are the overperforming specs, right side the underperforming specs.

Incomplete if you are only addressing 2/3 roles engaging in the content.

I am addressing all roles that should have a place in PvP. Sorry, but tank specs don’t belong in arena in my honest opinion!

So the numbers are only showing what you want them to show. Swole was correct. This isn’t how this works.

So all your stats are saying is how many people play a spec at lower rating vs higher mmr

They were completely excluded from basically everything including total amount of players. So the data are still correct!

Its more overperforming in RSS than underperforming in 3s though. WW is one of the worst specs in 3s and rss at 2700+ based on its popularity at 1800+ !!

There are many reasons why a spec could not shine in 3s even though its popular. For example because it simply doesn’t have a meta comp or something is meta that counters the spec.

But if the spec is lagging so badly even in a bracket where the specs not the comps defines the meta, then it is obviously not as strong as you might think it is!

Again: Remember that we’re talking about 2700+ here, not 1800, 2000 or 2200!

It compares their representation at each ratings.

Imagine for example only 50 people would play Fire and 10 of them reached 2700. On the other side you would have 10000 Arms players and 100 of them reached 2700.

Would you say Arms is 10 times better than Fire (100 vs 10), even though only 1% of the Arms players reached 2700 but 20% of the Fire players?

Your stats would say fire is better than arms in that case would it not?

You can exclude the tank data but did you exclude data for games for DPS/Heals that also included Tanks? If so, how?
