Spear/polearm

Is is just me or do wow characters look weird holding a spear or polearm?
I mean, your character holds the weapon very close to the top and dosent do poke moves, its basicay the 2H weapon animation holding a spear/polarm.
2H swing is fibe and dandy for sonething lije a halbred but using a spear just dosent seem right in this game. I really got into spears in the amazon mmo two worlds and when i came back to WoW i was like HECKYEAH SPEARS, but its not really spears, its just a weapon skin ontop of 2H swing animation

I can remember being excited to equip my first polearm back in BC, thinking the animation would be like a spear, or pike, or even a bo staff. It was neither, and felt really awkward. The animation reminded me of when we got noobs in our cosplay group who had no idea how the weapons worked.

I’m not an expert of HEMA by any means, but weapons in video games are almost never accurate to how they would be wielded in real life.

What games do you play besides wow. Most of them do

Even in something like Elden Ring the way they hold a 2h sword is completely wrong.

How a motion capture actor wields a weapon is supposed to be cool and over the top. Real sword fighting, or stick and club fighting, or what have you is very different.

I do wish there were more animation kits for different weapon types. Maces are ace, but they can be hard to enjoy in motion when your brain realizes they’re being swung like a sword.

The thrusting motion of a spear replaced by the swinging motion of my axe. :frowning:

Imo, it’s the most jank weapon.

The animations for polearms are so whacky in general.

And I guess no one really uses them except Survival Hunters, who can also use staves or any other 2H except maces.

So, no one really uses Polearms ‘alone’ if that makes sense.

They are definitely a neglected weapon type, lol.

Wondering how long these animations have been in place for, do the developers update the player animations from time to time or is that something that requires a ton of work?
