Is there a reason Blizz taunts me with so many different NPCs in BfA using spears and shields??

No pun intended but spears get the shaft in every single game.
Only game i remember spears. Especially one handers being good was diablo 2

Yeah very true. Not sure why. Archeage also had spear and shield combos allowed
Guild Wars had a class that ran a spear and shield. It’s main class skills were all party buffs and stuff, and then it chucked spears at enemies.

LotrO has a spear & shield wielding class
It has a class quest in which you are conscripted into a shield-wall/phalanx to defend Breeland against a horde of half-orcs and brigands.
I mean, when Gladiator spec was announced, I envisioned a warrior armed not with shield and 1h, but trident and net.
Make that happen.

I run around with a spear mog in arms, and jump in and out of defensive stance. It’s as close as you realistically get.
I wouldnt mind this as much if you could somehow transmog the shield you use in defensive stance…

Indeed, this is really the main functional flaw.
Unfortunately everything spearlike in this game is a 2hander. I don’t see them introducing a new weapon type, but I don’t think prot transmogging 2handers is anymore a stretch than the proposals that fury be able to transmog 1handers.

Yes agreed! Especially when they have tech in place now that lets then transmog a 2hander over a 1h+shield (like holy pally’s 2handed holy hammer artifact)
