Any reason why this can’t just be identical to “Blink” or even “Shimmer” aside from cosmetic differences and cooldown? The inky blob thing moves slower than I do so it’s not particularly useful for getting out of bad. (I’m better off just running.)
EDIT: I realize now that it’s closer to a Demonic Circle than a Blink/Shimmer, but Demonic Circle lasts up to 15 minutes. Spatial Rift travels about 40 yards and then lasts… 3 seconds. I believe that it should last at least 60 seconds.

It’s next to useless. I forget i even have the ability.

The best use I’ve found is the Visions affix where you get ringed in.
If that triggers in an area where you get closed in, Void Rift gets you out.

It’s good the way it is- You just have to be creative
-
Avoiding/running/escaping - Send it one direction and run in the opposite direction. When it’s about to run out hit it again and you’ll be running in the opposite direction of your enemy and be able to escape (I follow it up with my trinket and a speed potion
-
Gravity Lapse - If you use this right before gravity shoots you into the air, you can use it to put yourself down on the ground and pick up the flag while everyone is still flying around
-
Doube vision affixes - Sometimes you get stuck in split personality. It’s really helpful to get out of.
-
Can get yourself out of a druids solar beam and other snares to get you some distance
-
Can get you on the other side of an area being blocked by AOE/bad in ground.
-
Grabbin flags. You can use spatial rift, jump down into the flag rooms, grab the flag and spatial rift outta there and it gives you a few seconds head start as they don’t know which direction you’ve gone in.
Those are a few I can think of outta the top of my head.

if a rogue is running at you and his mage is in your LOS you can throw a rift behind the pillar close to you and when he kidneys you, youll teleport to the safety of the pillar (if you time it right)
- You are using it wrong, it’s not suposed to be a free blink.
use it, cast a few spells, and blink after.
- Throw it left and run right. if enemy chases you, shift to the rift. if enemy camps the shadow, don’t blink.
- Works as a true teleport, can pass through things safely.
It’s a very usefull tool, especially for a warlock.

I’ve even mentioned it in several other posts over the past year or so and Blizzard hasn’t done anything about it yet so…Working as intended?
You can hold the flag and use rift at the same time?
Great question. I’d like to know, also.
It’s usually on cooldown from the lapse so i’m not able there
But I can use spatial rift on the second floor of twin peaks, hit it again and be out of the room before you know it (while holding flag).
I think my biggest complaint is the rift doesn’t last long. Once it travels max distance, it’s only there for about 3 seconds before it disappears. I’m not saying it should last as long as Demonic Circle but it should last at least a minute and that time should be deducted from the CD of the next cast. (i.e. it’s 3 minutes between creating the rift, not 3 minutes after you use the rift)
It’s an ability you have to think ahead to using it, I love that it doesn’t require Line of Sight, no limits on how far you can be, or any height requirements. I can pop back to areas that have recently become inaccessible like deliberately falling off a cliff then suddenly you’re back up top. The best use for it is on my Hunter cast Rift, Disengage, and run away; when Rift is about to end, Teleport and now I’m running the opposite direction with a huge distance between us.
Its especially useful when you know game mechanics in a dungeon or raid is either going to force you to move or block your path, planning ahead you can Rift to a safe spot or closer to where you need to be. You can bypass obstacles that are otherwise impassable to everyone else including anything that requires line of sight to use. The best tank strategy I’ve seen so far is casting it to a safe spot, then use it to either kite mobs around at a further distance or pull large groups then port to safety behind a wall.
Because you’re not using it properly. It’s amazing the way it is because it presents counter play and obvious choice.
Example. In PvP, you throw Spatial Rift on the bridge in Blade’s Edge, and then you jump down. If they follow you, you teleport back up. If they don’t because they’re expecting you to teleport, you have precious seconds to do what needs to be done such as topping yourself off, of resetting.
Spatial Rift in its current form gives the void elf so much control and power over a specific situation, and unlike Blink / Shimmer, is a physical ability and cannot be silenced. If you get root beamed, you can spatial rift out of it. If you are being chased, you can toss spatial rift in one direction, kite in the other, and then get so much more distance than any other ability in the game gives.
Don’t knock it. Just use it better. Because it’s an amazing ability.
