Sparks in 10.1, useful or useless?

Cant find any info on this (unless im blind as a bat). Anyone know of anything happening with these in 10.1?

I would imagine they’re still the same as ever. Crafted gear will be upgradeable to 10.1 item levels using reagents made from those crest thingies, so there should still be a need for sparks to make the base items.

But they might change it to an “Uber-Spark” … to prevent hoarding.

That’s what I figure they’ll do as well. Haven’t looked into it at all, though.

Based on how often you see posts from players complaining about bottled essence drops, I don’t think hoarding Sparks is going to be a problem.

I thought I saw a post about sparks becoming vendor trash in 10.1, but now I’m having trouble finding it. Was I dreaming? If crafted items are going to be upgradable in future patches, I don’t see why sparks of ingenuity would become grey items.

This is exactly what they are doing. The new spark is called “Spark of Shadowflame”.

The only crafting item so far I’ve seen on ptr that is turning into a grey item is Primal Chaos.

It looks like they may not be used for new epics. On PTR Wowhead they have a few changes:

  • It’s set to an Optional Reagent instead of required, and
  • It gives “Set to Dragonflight Season 1 and Item Level based on Crafting Quality (382-395).”

That implies to me there will be a new, Season 2 spark and that you’ll be able to recraft your existing S1 items with them, but that’s just me speculating.

I think they’ll be useless but for crafting only learning. Dang,wish they would make their minds up.

ew so just when I will have enough primal chaos for weapons they will make them useless and I will have to farm another - they really should just leave them in there for the people who don’t care if they get over 405 gear.

From what I read, you won’t need them at all for season 1 level gear (i.e. 405). You can optionally add a spark to increase gear level. If you don’t want to go over 405 ilevel, then you’re done.

If you want to upgrade to Season 2 ilevels, then you’ll need to new Spark of Shadowflame.

yes but it feels really bad to work months saving up enough and have them then made useless.

I guess I am used to it. I was given Valor for doing casual things in Shadowlands and had nothing to use it on so… Even in older expansions. I have so many currencies and traded in some many badges for gold over the years.

I just hope they don’t make the same mess they made with primal chaos and give mythic plus players way too many guaranteed.

I never used valor either but then I didn’t go out of my way to get it, unlike the primal chaos.

Blizzard will… They will see it as an incentive to get people to play more Mythic+ dungeons. Even though those players have little use for them.

it does not take very much to make them unless you are literally not doing any content except a world quest or 2.

like, if you were trying to make the 405s you would have enough primal chaos by the time you did 10 +11-15s :dracthyr_shrug:

besides, they are changing the entire gearing system so that literally everything minus pvp gear (for now) can upgrade via basically the same currency. even Valor is going away.
