so if we have to wait till the end of January in order get be able to get a chance at getting enough Spark of Ingenuity to lvl our professions up which will make them pointless gearing wise since most people will be in M+ gear what exactly is the point in the crafting system? i mean the new system looked cool and fun but like what kinda implementation is this or did i miss a post somewhere that explained this and it made sense
I just did two quests for these things and all I got was “craft powerful stuff” as an explanation. Just another thing on the long list of stuff not explained very well.
The crafting professions are kind of borked in that aspect. They made them needlessly complex, and gated the currency needed to reach max potential. So yeah, by the time the average crafter can make decent gear, nobody will need it.
I mean heck, the elemental invasion gear already outranks profession gear to some extent.
I think crafters being able to specialize in things is cool, but they made it drag out so long that I really doubt it will be worth it in the end.
I’m tempted to swap to gathering profs and just sell everything. Alchemy is useful, but a pita to upgrade past a certain spot. Leatherworking and Smithing are both already basically nullified by rare mobs, elemental gear, and heroic dungeons. Engineering still has some niche things, but it’s also a pain to specialize in the things you need to when nobody is making crafting orders for it. I haven’t touched Tailoring, but I can imagine it has the same issues. Enchanting is doing OK, but getting the proper mats from DEing gear is a hair pulling experience and a test in patience.
They tried to make them into end game progression, and I can see where it would be neat, but with the different avenues for players to get gear and items it just ended up with them being overly convoluted and slowed to a point of obsolescence.
Fwiw I run Enchanting & Engi on one character, and Skinning & LW on another. Only one of those professions has been worth my time.
Primal Chaos in my opinion are a bigger blockade than the Sparks.
Everyone gets the sparks though. Even non-crafters. They were supposed to get 386 gear made through crafting orders.
If other items were more plentiful, then everyone could have had two pieces of 386 gear by the first day of the season. However complexity of items and knowledge points plus poor implementation of the crafting order system kneecapped professions out of the gate.
I still have no idea what this thing even is. I did all the quests for it and got a few thingies for it but I have no frigging clue how it works or what it’s for. None of the in-game text actually explained what the hell it even is. Whoever wrote it seems to have lost track and started rambling about belly button lint or something.
They defeated the point of the crafting system with the sparks.
The only real reason it exists at this point is to power up new-mains for the coming patches (like if the meta is changing and you want to make a new main for the upcoming patch and you want that char to be somewhat strong right away you could gather all the sparks possible and then gear him with crafted, however you still need to go into content to get the primal chaos and other reagents so idk???
They time gate it just like they pointlessly timegated all the renown system item rewards because by the time anyone even unlocks most of them they will be extremely obsolete for just about everyone.
I love being a crafter, and as a FF14 player there’s lots of options and support for it. Notably I enjoy crafting a full set of gear for myself and my friends. So I was very interested in the new system for Dragonflight.
As I understand it, I won’t be able to craft a full set for myself in Dragonflight, and even if I completely dedicate myself to a certain item and completely min max it I’ll only be able to create the best gear for other players because I won’t be doing Mythic raiding or High Key M+.
There’s a wall, which we’re hitting now, where people who enjoy crafting are realizing that they are not in fact going to be able to craft what they want.
And… that really sucks. Especially for those that were very excited for Dragonflight’s crafting.
But the timegating, barrier to entry, and ultimately locking crafting endgame behind non-crafting and gathering activities kills it for lots of people.
Sparks of Ingenuity are locked behind the campaign which is a terrible choice.
Blizzard said they were getting rid of this kind of thing. I.e. forcing players to do things they don’t enjoy doing for important gear/power.
In shadowlands people hated that the covenants gave you power and stronger conduits and all that soulbinding but now we’re forced to do the campaign to unlock sparks of ingenuity… this is no different from shadowlands covenants.
If you want to get sparks you must do the camping and then wait week by week or whatnot to get more sparks. So if you want the proper gear say for example the elemental lariat then blizzard is forcing you to do things you may not enjoy (campaign, quests)
What a terrible system that was intended to fix another system which in turn is exactly the same system.
Do quests/etc to get power so you can be stronger in some way…
I won’t be surprised if in a week or so people start kicking players from M+/Raids if they don’t have their elemental lariat even though those players might be better anyways without the lariat.
True. I like the professions systems a lot, love the spec system they added, having fun with tailoring… but my tailoring will absolutely be irrelevant soon… which is a bummer
Unless I get one of the items that allows me to recraft at 405 ilvl. Lord knows how to do/get that item.
It makes me really glad I didn’t listen to everyone who said “Save your sparks, save your sparks” … Why? Crafted gear is only relevant now, early on. If anything I wish I had spent my sparks earlier. Helped with my ilvl, which helped get into groups, which helped more with my ilvl, which helped me get ahead early.

The quests take like 2 minutes to do.
